Default McCain-Lieberman ticket for the Republicans?

This would not surprise me at all. Lieberman is riding shotgun for McCain's taxpayer paid campaign junket to the Middle East, and he's been saving the Republican's favored candidate left and right from making blunders on foreign soil (so much for McCain's foreign policy expertise).

Could be a team that reaches across the aisle at attracts some of the old school Democrats.

I hope note or the Republicans will die a slow death.

The running mate has to be someone with potential in the party. Someone who is young who can hopefully speak Spanish or Chinese. The Republicans have to play the field with this candidate. McCain is at a severe disadvantage and things have to be put in motion now to stop the bleeding after the Obama win in 08.

It would be a smart move, I think. The risk is alienating the extreme right, but if you can mobilize them with a smear campaign against Obama, it might actually work to create a winning coalition between moderates and the extreme right.

Right on the nose Iowa. The Republicans will either get the wingnuts again, or they will go to church and not vote, like they have done in the past. Where the election will be won is in the independents and soft Democrats and Republicans. The party that swings these voters takes the election. A combination of McCain and Lieberman, two moderates, might snap up that big block of centerist voters where the majority of Americans find themselves.

In that sense it would be an interesting ticket. The other side of that is that Lieberman does nothing to erase McCain's main liability--that he's an old coot with no charisma, and perhaps a little out of touch. In that sense Lieberman is about the same. Interesting times for sure.

The extreme right wing Republicans will not vote for a Democrat anyway. There is no real risk in alienating that vote. They are passionate, yet misguided, conservatives and when it comes down to it, they will vote Republican. I don't see them "wasting" their vote on a third party candidate either. We all saw what happened when Buchannan ran for President. They weren't overwhelmingly voting for him either.

I've been saying it for months in this very forum.

Yeah, water down already a watered down McCain even more, what an idea. Not surprised Dems love it. McCain might as well just switch the parties. If he goes with Lieberman, I would have to say that Ann Coulter was right about McCain all along.
