The Web brings people together because no matter what kind of a twisted sexual mutant you happen to be, you've got millions of pals out there. Type in 'Find people that have sex with goats that are on fire' and the computer will ask, 'Specify type of goat.'

That reminded me further of the savant I was talking about a few posts back. The guy could also recite pi to 100s of digits and he said he also did this by remember what it 'looked like'. They asked him to draw it and he drew what I can only describe as a odd combination of different shapes and colours. It was truely bizzare.
The guy could remember anything this way too, not just numbers. To test him, they asked him to learn a language that he had never heard spoken before and that was apparently very difficult to learn. They chose Icelandic. Within a week he was fully conversational did an interview entirely in Icelandic on an Icelandic tv station.

Yeah... my colours are something like
0=black
1=brown
2=red
3=orange
4=yellow
5=green
6=blue
7=violet
8=grey
9=white
But then again, I'm an electrical engineer.

I'm assuming you're serious with this post... So do you notice that some numbers' colours are less prominent and that others are set in stone? For me, 4 is green, 7 is red and 8 is yellow. Those are concrete. Never gonna change. 5 is blue, 9 and 1 are black and 2 is white. That is almost always. 3 and 6 are always a dark colour, but not necessarily always purple or brown.

The Mayans used to make individuals like that priests. Maybe they were on to something.

I am not sure I think of numbers as being attached to a colour, but I do think of them as male or female.
For example, 0, 1, 2, 8 are male numbers for sure, whereas 3, 4, 7, 9 are girl numbers. etc.

So does that make 5 and 6 androgynous, or gay?

I left them out because I was just giving examples, but 6 is a guy, 5 is a girl, but 0 is a a he-she that's for sure.
The more you think about 0, the more is has to be both, and yet none.

I don't really think visually at all, it's more sonic, as if words are being spoken in my head without associated pictures. I have to specifically concentrate to "see" memories, and they are never very clear unless there is an olfactory, audible or tactile element to the memory - for example, I can remember hundreds of songs and replay them in my head as if they were "live".
Perhaps not all that co-incidentally, I have a terrible memory for faces and names, and have to repeat someone's name in my head dozens of times when I meet him/her or else I will forget.
As far as seeing different numbers with colours attached, I suggest some sort of electro-shock therapy is in order. We'll zap that crazyness right out of your skull!

There's a really cool book called "The Memory Artists" by Jeffrey Moore that deals with a lot of the things mentioned in this thread. Its main character is based on a real-life individual, and is a hypermnesic synaesthete; meaning he has an incredible memory (can remember his security blanket as a child, entire books, movies; pretty well everything he has ever done), and also "sees" people's voices: when they talk, their voices have a distinct shape and colour that he never forgets. It's really interesting to see/think how a person like that could function, and how much of a burden something like that could be.

Anyone see that documentary on Discovery about real life "heroes"? There was one case where woman was not only synethetic, but all words/numbers also had a taste. In fact it wasn't just words. She could taste music and see music in colour. Because of this she had an incredible memory.
That was truly one of my favourite documentaries on Discovery. The show featured about 5 people who had superhuman powers. All that's left is for 4x4 to take out Sylar, and the world will be safe once again.

Heh... sorry to get your hopes up about me being serious, but I figured someone would call me on the joke rather quickly given the number of nerds we have around here. To be serious, what others have said about "synesthesia" sounds right to me, and I've seen stories on TV about this. Fascinating to hear about from someone who experiences it. This leads to the question: what colour is the speed limit on Deerfoot Trail? I haven't read everything here, but do any of your other senses come into play in strange places? Do numbers have a taste, a sound?

I did dinner with the family tonight and I brought this up. Again, everybody at the table sees numbers and letters in black, all the time.
Looks like me, Ford and Cube are the only three colour seeing freaks. I'm just happy that I'm not alone in the world.
edit** Cube was kidding... Me and Ford are the only freaks.

The speed limit is 100. It is black to me. Probably because the prominent number is 1, and 1 is black.
For the record, "Deerfoot" is red.

It sounds like you've watched too much TV; backflashes and visualizations tend to be in back and white there.
I used to have subtitled dreams, complete in two languages (Finnish and Swedish), with translation errors. (That's the way they do it for foreign films in theaters in Finland.) Funniest part is, I don't really know any Swedish This came about in my teens when I used to watch tons of movies. My dreams also used to have camera drives, cuts and stuff like that. It was actually pretty cool, and I'm sorry it ended. Lasted for something like ten years.
(I thought I wrote this message once already, but obviously I screwed up somehow.)

When I was a kid I heard a story about an English speaking American woman who was struck by lightning and after that she could only speak Swedish.
It's not true of course but that crazy tale has always stuck with me.
Random comment related to some things brought up in this thread...
I once worked with an autistic 8 year-old boy who had a hell of a time reading and counting but he could stand on a fully inflated exercise ball. That was pretty cool.

Not the one...

I don't understand the concept of coloured numbers. I don't picture anything in my head when I do math. Now that I think about it, I rarely visualize anyone - and have terrific reading comprehension.

I resemble that remark ... thank you.
Another weird thought pattern I have is to always see at least three or four sides to everything. It seems to me that most people will view a situation one of two ways ... black or white, right or wrong. I'm always preoccupied with examining the shades and hues in between black and white. I hope that makes sense.
