It's about freakin time we can cheer for Lethbridge with pride and honestly think they have a chance of doing something in the playoffs. Remember, last time the Canes got past the first round they made it to the Mem Cup so beat the Wheaties and they're good to go.
Just as I'm writing this, Zack Boychuk is featured in the Home Hardware top prospects segment in the intermission on sportsnet. Man I'm pumped.

Shaw will be broadcasting the Vancouver/Chilliwack series for those of you who are interested.

I can't say that I'm overly interested in that series. It's not surprising, whatsover, that Shaw chose that series given the population base there but I would have preferred to see the Tigers-Ice series. Like that was going to happen....

That makes two of us, especially since I'll be at half the Giants/Bruins tilts. Also I think Kelowna/Seattle could be a dandy.

In other news, the Rebels finally won something this season; the Bantam draft lottery!
Hey, at this point in time, I'll take anything that they get. Anybody have any opinions on their possible selection? Benson, St. Croix, or Rattie seem the most likely choice. Anybody seen these boys play?

Well, all the fun starts in a matter of hours! Thought I'd ask you guys who you think will move on to the second round...
My East picks:
Calgary vs. Moose Jaw
Regina vs. Swift Current
Lethbridge vs. Brandon
Medicine Hat vs. Kootenay
My West picks:
Tri-City vs. Kamloops
Vancouver vs. Chilliwack
Spokane vs. Everett
Seattle vs. Kelowna
Of course, my dream final would be Giants/Ice, but I will call my shot and say Tri-City will win the 'Dub over the Hurricanes.

I'll echo 604Flames' predictions, though I think, ultimately, Kootenay over Medicine Hat is wishful thinking on my part.
Hitmen with a great opener to the playoffs tonight, with a 5-1 win over the Warriors. Highly physical game... this series could get nasty if it goes a longer distance. Chris Savage left his mark on the game, as usual, hitting the Warriors for 18 PIMs in the last 5 minutes of the game. All on pretty weak calls.

Giants squeak by Chilliwack 2-1 tonight. Bruins had the potential tying goal called back 'cause one of their guys (Santorelli I think?) backed into Sexsmith and knocked him down. Weak call I'd say, especially considering that no g.i. was called.
Someone gave Santorelli a nice elbow to the face right in front of me tonight too, no call and didn't catch who it was...
West Karma check your PM
EDIT: Ice win Game 1 5-2 in the Hat, Ben Maxwell with a pair.
Other winners tonight: Regina, Lethbridge, Spokane, Tri-City, Kelowna.

I really didn't think Vancouver played well at all last night, and I really thought they were trying to rough up Santorelli and Moller to knock them off their game.
I agree with you though I think you guys get the split tonight (just like last year), and then the series will ride on what happens out there.
Should be more in attendance tonight too hopefully, even though a lot of the people who sit in my section weren't there last night. I really hope it isn't a case of Giants fans looking ahead to (potentially) the next round and choosing to save their money.
EDIT: I'll be there tonight, my seats are in Sec. W, right on the faceoff dot two rows up from the concrete barrier.

If it was in the crease, then it would have been the right call. You can't score a goal via incidental contact with the goaltender, but a penalty doesn't have to be called in that situation either.

^^ That's the thing though.. Santorelli barely touched him, Sexsmith went down like he'd been shot, and then Santorelli got out of the crease and 5 seconds later the Bruins scored from the corner, only because Sexsmith didn't get up on time.
I watched the Shaw telecast when I got home and both guys seemed to think it was pretty chintzy on Andy Thiessen's part.

Oh, well, if you had mentioned Thiessen's name from the start, I wouldn't have argued...

Here's a clip:

There's quite a debate on the WHL white board about this call. I've now read the rulebook on this and perhaps it was the right call but I have to agree it did seem a little chintzy to me.

Looks like the right call.
It wasn't brutal but there was enough contact that it affected Sexsmith and caused the goal.
Tough call for the Bruins but the right call from the refs.
If you wanted to see really inept reffing last night Kirk and Maclean put on a clinic in how not to referee a hockey game last night. It was an absolute embarrassment.
