Most realistic "fiction" on TV...?
I sit here with "CSI: Miami" on the tube, and I can't help but laugh at how ridiculous it is. This makes me wonder...what do you think is the most realistic "fictional" show (as opposed to documentary, reality, etc) currently on TV? What ridiculous premises make you laugh?
I don't watch much TV, but the hyper-intelligent computer systems on all the CSI shows just crack me up. On the other hand, the most realistic-feeling thing I ever watch is Law & Order...but I'm not exactly a lawyer in NY, so I have no idea how realistic it is. Help me find some good, fake-real TV!

Out of all crime shows I have seen (CSI Miami is a travesty IMO), I think only NYPD Blue can be considered as at least somewhat realistic.

Entourage. I woudn't have a clue how realistic it is. But it doesn't seem to be too far fetched considering the characters fame and fortune.

The best part about CSI: Miami are the computer programs. The CSI will ask the techy for some random bit of information, and after 2 mouse clicks it comes up in this beautiful looking 3D pie chart or something.
I love CSI: Miami.
As far as most realistic...It depends what part of the show. House MD isn't realistic in some ways (ie. outrageous characters with unrealistic interaction), but it also has 3 real infectious disease specialists on the writing staff to keep the medical side of the show realistic.

Ding ding ding, we have the winner.
I'm not sure I'd describe The Wire as a "crime" show, though. Yes, it centers around several criminal investigations into drug gangs in Baltimore, but it's more a commentary about urban America and the various institutions that are failing to serve the public properly -- the police department is one example, but they also spend ample time showing the flaws of organized (corrupt) labour, politicians, schools, and the media.
I can't recommend that series enough, though. Once you've watched a season or two of The Wire, you can never go back to watching CSI or Law & Order or NYPD Blue or whatever again.

It used to be Six Feet Under. Now, from the shows I've seen I'd have to say the Office. Except Michael.

This conversation starts and ends with The Wire...but I would say Friday Night Lights has some of the most realistic relationships on TV - particularly the coach and his wife.

As much as I love the Shield, and I do, I own all the seasons and actually just finished re-watchin Season 2(for like the 9th time) this week, I don't think the show is realistic at all. I like how they use a different camera technique in the show to give it a gritty, kind of in your face feel. But in terms of storylines. No way. I don't think there are cops that rob millions from the Armenian mob, then have this inner struggle within that leads t a guy burning it(WHAT WERE YOU DOING LEM???). I find it hard to believe that a couple cops would go searching for a dead girl with a shovel. I find it hard to believe that a cop would burn the side of a dude's face and the guy wouldn't snitch on him. Yes, the show does try to justify its "realism" by putting these characters is some insane situations, where drastic measures are needed. I just don't but that ALL of it could happen to one group of cops. But that's also what makes it a great show.
I realize that bad happens all the time and people do crazy things and sure, Im sure crooked cops have been in similar situations, but I don't watch the Shield because I find it to be realisitc, actually, it's probably quite the contrary.

That's the great irony...reality TV is more artificial than almost anything else out there. I'm actually surprised that they haven't ditched the "reality" term when referring to it, and instead started calling it "unscripted" drama, or something like that.
I've never actually heard of "the Wire" ... this needs investigation.
