Best Hair Gel

My hair is really stubborn and I require a lot of gel to make it hold. The only problem is all the gels I use tend to leave my hair with a white residue. Wax has never worked for me. Any suggestions for a good gel that has a really good hold?

Well, depends really.

Right now, I use Crew Wax for when I need to do my hair all fancy like. I wear a hat 99.9995% of my day, but that stuff works great.

I used to use that Dep stuff or whatever it's called. That crap is like super-glue, but yeah, near the end of the day, it's very flakey.

Why won't wax work for you?

Never heard of a white residue from gel. How much you putting on?

I dont put very much gel in (probably the size of a dime) but still no matter what I use it always seems to live a white residue. Wax has never been strong enough for my hair. Also in this thread could you guys let me know where to buy there products. Thanks again for all your help.

I use D:Fi - it is great. Holds my hair 100x better than gel (my hair is quite stubborn too, and I'd have to pile on the gel to get it to hold, but I don't want that grease look).

theres a clear gel/wax that i use made by J Crew its in a brown , round container.. its about 16 bucks but its really thick and it holds very well..... its clear and doesnt leave any residue.....

This is what I use most of the time. I usually buy one every time I get my hair cut. It isn't wax but it has a fairly good hold.

I use it with my hair just barely damp and it holds my thick wiry hair quite well.

i use the cheapo alberto extreme hold. its like glue! i have never had white flakes in my hair from using it.

Man, I'm no self professed hair style know-it-all, but I'm pretty sure hair gel kinda died with the 90's...

A little bit of "Grooming Cream" and you're good to go. American Crew is great, I've also used KMS California. Both available at a hair dressers.

Those white flakes you're talking about are from too much gel I'd assume...

Yup, here's a solution to that crappy old shiney greasey looking rock hard gel hair: Alberto Create Styling Putty. I live by it. And I have outstanding hair.

Okay, hairdresser here to the rescue (using my husbands account, he wont be happy) but gel is ok for using on wet hair and then blow drying, but you don't want to style with it, that is sooo not in. I think what you would benefit from is from AG called Infrastructure. You can get it at alot of salons, if you need a particular place try the salon downstairs in south centre mall across from Shoppers Drug Mart. It is 16 dollars but will last months. You just use a very small amount and rub it in your hands until it feels hot. You will actually see the fibres in it if u spread your hands apart. A little hairspray after to hold it is good too, men CAN use hairspray you know. Noone will ever know you did, and believe me, ALOT of very macho men use it.

Alas my gel leaves white residue, forunately the only time i put it in is when we're going out drinking, and by the time the white residue appears i could really give a crap.
