Exactly. However have you guys noticed that gradually DVDs crept back up in price the last few years.

I don't think so but they sure drop in price fast after initial release. At Wal-mart today I saw Live Free or Die Hard and Rescue Dawn priced at 2/$25 already (ie. $12.50 each). There were probably other recent release too I didn't notice. I am also able to pick up $5-$10 DVD movies that aren't more than a few years old. I can't wait till Blu-Ray gets to that point. It's hard to stock up on high def movies when Blu-Ray movies from the 80's and 90's are still $20 and up for the most part. I love impulse buying DVD's for $5-$10 each. Seems like a bargain and always satisfied.

Not really, but the biggest clear problem was the double dip.
You'd get say King Kong come out at 21.99 and 3-5 months later a special edition would be released for 29.99.
Studios are really milking the cows for these stupid double dips and I'm sure a lot of people are quite tired of them

Looking at different forums, I don't see why Toshiba didn't take the opportunity to "New Coke" this format. HD-DVD is more popular today than it ever was.
All it would have taken was them to announce they are pulling the format, and sell off all the players for $100 like they are doing now. But make sure stores always have a few left in stock, and re-sell them new ones so the stores still make a profit. Sell the discs for cheap like what Amazon is doing in the other thread. Make the HD-DVD add on for the Xbox ultra cheap.
Then in 3 months announce that you are bringing back the format. Because so many people will now own players, it could make a bit of a comeback.

That is a brilliant suggestion. "New Coke" this format! Can't imagine studios going along with the idea, and I'm not sure how consumers would react. But it's a very creative idea all the same.

The problem is movie studios would never go for the strategy. It's too edgy, creative, and smart.
IMO the reason the studios picked BD in the first place was because they decided it had superior tech.

There have been plenty of 2 for 1 deals at Amazon.com for both formats the past months.

That and I don't think it's in the best interests for studios to support two formats. I think the studios are pretty happy that the format war ended so quickly. There's no way they'd try to prolong it with that kind of strategy. They'll just end up screwing themselves in the end by havin the market split into two again. If anything, I think the studios will try to wipe the last remnants of HD DVD off the market as quickly as possible, just so consumers entering the market won't have to choose between the two.

Question for you all out there.
Lets say you bought the Toshiba A-30 (High Definition player that outputs to 1080p) and you had purchased the warranty for 3 years. Now 2 years after you bought the thing it becomes 'broken'. Would the retailer not have to either fix your machine or provide you with an equivalent model?
I'm thinking that the retailer wouldn't bother fixing an outdated machine and just give you a comparable 'High Definition player' no??
*****To note, I am not trying to promote a scam or anything like that, just curious what would happen in this case since I was far too young to experience the VHS/Beta battle******

Most extended warranties would claim to work like that (i.e. replace with a comparable HD player), especially when they were sold to you. Whether the company woudl truly honor that is another matter entirely IMO.

Also keep in mind that with VHS/Beta and even with Laserdisc; there were retail versions of those products available long after the format "died."
I sold a Betamax to a customer in 1999. I think the price was $800 or something crazy like that. Looking it up in the custom order book there was also a Laserdisc player available.
It would be interesting to see what they try and do with warranty HD-DVD players.

Sale on Blu-ray at amazon.com, up to 55% off.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...=bluraynews-20
Click on Comedy & Drama and Horror & Suspense tabs to see more, plus each has 2 pages. I made an order for 5 discs, although I think only one or two were on sale. Still my order was $25 cheaper that it would have been if I ordered on the Canadian site. Can't wait to watch No Country For Old Men in HD.

How the heck does that work?
Polarized sunglasses are polarized on the same axis. I know stuff like IMAX 3D works by having each eye see light filtered by polarization through perpendicular axises, but IMAX 3D also gives you double vision if you take the glasses off.
