Bratmobile
The Misfits
Cop Shoot Cop
Operation Ivy
Dayglo Abortions
D.R.I.

(early) Suicidal Tendencies
Most modern punk sucks these days.

Agreed. If i had a nickel for every kid I was forced to belittle because they told me "Good Charlotte is my fav punk band!" I'd have, like, .35 cents. But yes, punk is dead.

I used to listen to rancid and nofx and others a long time ago. I feel to old now although I like it when I hear any of my old punk favorites.

Good Charlotte is a boy band that was made to look "punk".
How could I forget the Dead Kennedies and NoMeansNo. They're the 2 bands that started it for me. California Uber Alles is still a Saturday night must listen for me.
Now, I pretty much just stick to either old school punk, or experimental stuff.

No disagreement on my part. I definitely left Bad Brains (already mentioned) and The Ramones off of my original list.
I'm much more partial to what could be called "happy punk". Not a huge fan of going to a show and having to fight for my life, or decide someone elses. Love the quote from one of the Queers lately, to paraphrase....
"Punk sucks nowadays. You've got this Irish-Dropkick BS where everyone just wants to go to a show and kick teeth in. No one can have a good time anymore"

A few of my faves have already been listed: DK, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, D.R.I., S.T., Dayglo Abortions, Dead Milkmen... and there are others not mentioned such as Black Flag, D.O.A., C.O.C., S.O.D., Dag Nasty, Misfits, Butthole Surfers, Social Distortion, Discharge, etc.
One that I really like and wasn't mentioned was The Meatmen.
Like with Metal there are so many subsets, crossovers and just plain smearing of the lines on what is or isn't punk. So, I could list a ton more bands, but they could cross multiple genres (as do some of the bands listed above).
