Growing up I never tried weed. In the small town where I went to school there really wasn't any weed around, that I knew of. Although there was plenty the generation before so I'm told (1970's). My group of friends and I always associated weed with the kids who we referred to as losers or skids. I tried it once at college and didn't like how lethargic it made me feel. The fact that you actually have to smoke the stuff isn't very appealing for me either as I despise smoking. If people want to smoke weed I have no problem with it. Personally I have zero desire to do so myself.

I've always smoked to relax, get a new perspective on situations and sleep. It served me well in High school and University, but now its beginning to feel like a monkey on my back. I don't really want to quit, but I need to learn how to manage it differently, this is the first time in my life that its felt like a de-motivator. I've been checking out Marijuana Anonymous and some other online forums, threads like this are great because their are so many perspectives,
As for the driving aspect. I hear about a study done on weed and driving about once a year, the conclusion is always: If your a regularly user, it makes you a better driver (sounds unbelievable, but I've heard it so many times I no longer doubt). If your not a regular user, it will destroy your driving skills. Science!
Also, there is no comparing weed to alcohol. Weed is a soft drug, Alcohol is a hard drug. I'd compare Alcohol to coke before I compared it to weed.

Disagree based purely on the fact that I can drink an entire beer and not be drunk but even one hoot of weed and I'm stoned.

Interesting because you aren't linking a study.

Drink 12 beer and compare that to 12 hoots of weed, theres a cap with how much weed will mess you up, but alcohol can kill your ass if you push it.
I don't have a study off-hand, its just something I've followed over the years (being a stoner and all), heres one I just googled:
http://www.miqel.com/reading_library...e-on-weed.html
This Youtube is a really interesting case study.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3zou4F00Ic
Just google it man, these kinds of studies are done all the time. Just watch out for websites with names like dare.com, stoners-eat-babies.com and their ilk, the bias tends to be astounding.

I've only skimmed this thread however to answer the question:
I'm one of those that fall into the small percentage that has never smoked weed.
I have a few reasons:
- The thought of inhaling smoke makes me sick to my stomach, I've never smoked cigarettes either. That said if you do, so be it, to each their own.
- It's illegal, and I'll get caught . . . yes I'll get caught, trust me, I will be, haha
- I've been at parties where pot was smoked (I might be a wanker but I'm not *that* bad) and whenever I'm around the second-hand weed smoke I get splitting headaches. My argument to all the "goodie-too-shoes" arguments was "well if I get a headache from second hand smoke, why would I inhale? That's like pricking your thumb on a tack then me telling you jamming your hand through a nail won't hurt!"
- I do think that it should be decriminalized in small doces, but harsher penalties for trafficing. Mind you I think our criminal justice system is very liberal and needs to be changed.
Anyway time for something that gets me really high, and it legal . . . Flames hockey

Dabbled in high school, probably did it around 15-20 times total by the time I had graduated. Over the next year afterwards I smoked it constantly, I'd say almost every day. My buddies were big weed smokers back then(actually they still are), so it was always available to me. It really affected me though after awhile, I swear it'd make me stupid. And I don't mean just while I was on it, even the next day, or even couple of days. So I slowed down with it bigtime.
Now I dabble occassionally. Don't really know anyone up here who smokes, so I dont either. If it's around I will, but I don't make a point to look for it. Once in awhile I get the urge to do it, if it's been a couple of months or somethin(which is what its been right now), but by now way am I a regular puffer anymore. During the school semester I try not to, as it really kills my motivation to study. So during the Christmas break or whatever I'll smoke it a few times, just as a relaxant. For me it's a way to congratulate myself on a successful semester.

I'm probably one of the few here that smoke it regularly, as in at least once a day. First, I prefer smoking weed to drinking. No hangovers to worry about. Second, I've never understood why it's classified as a gateway drug, perhaps to some. I've been smoking weed since high school and I've never gotten the urge to try anything else. Third, I find that it doesn't affect me in a way where I can't control myself. Some people like to come have a drink when they get home to relax, I prefer to smoke a joint. Not that I'm opposed to drinking in any way, nothing tops a good bottle of wine. And the final reason why I like it, I can go months without smoking and not feel that urge where I feel like I NEED it. I just do it because it's very relaxing for me.

Like you said in your post, to each their own and good for you if you've never wanted to try it.
As for getting caught, I can tell you that in this city there isn't much to worry about unless you're carrying copious amounts. Most cops will just make you put your joint out and send you on your way. Either that or confiscate it...to dispose of it themselves I'm sure
Why are cops going to go through the trouble of all that paperwork when a judge will simply throw the case out for small amounts. The only thing they care about is trafficking.

I am sort of curious, and I likely won't get any responses which is fine, but where do you find your weed? I mean, is it worth going to some dirtbag to get the stuff and risk your hide? Are there "decent" people that you can buy weed off of that almost ensures you not getting caught?

Not to be a jerk, but I'll assume you're a teen. You run across many people in your life who can hook you up. Hell, my next door neighbour used was the most upstanding of people you can find, but moved weight as a job and had a quite nice carriage house.

Yeah, he's a teen because he doesn't know people that can hook you up.
Some of us have never touched the stuff, eh.....how would we know anything about getting it?

If we're talking about weed, chances are good that the guy you find selling it is a university student.

Haha, that's a question I have to. I have no desire to do that stuff, but I was wondering where you get it in the big city...do you just walk up to some unsavoury looking fellow on the street and ask if he's got any mara-jew-wanna on him? Or do you get it from a friend or grow it yourself?

No worries, I attempted to preface it with "not to be a jerk..." Living in Denver you can't throw a rock w/o hitting someone who is holding. I guess I don't understand the whole "I've never touched it" thing. Curse you public school!

I don't know where anyone else finds it and I never find it myself, but years ago I had a touch of the reefer-madness and so did everyone I hung out with. There never was a second that I thought my hide was at risk.
Every weed-peddler I ever came across had a lazy dog and a playstation habit that was just as detrimental to his health as the reefer he smoked. It's not like the movies with some goon at the door with a pistol in his waistband and the dealer is wearing a tuxedo with the bow-tie undone.
That being said, there are real criminals (not potheads with deadhead tattoos and a scale on the coffee table but real gangsters) behind it all so who knows.
I would guess that millions of purchases of personal marijuana happen in Canada every year and very few people ever get caught. I've never heard of anyone getting pinched for buying a bit of weed.
I hate to sound like Polly Preacher here, but if you've never tried it then just don't bother. It has to be the most overrated substance in the world, behind perhaps only gold.
And don't buy into any of the "it's an experience" or "it's enlightening" horseshat. It's no more of an experience -- religious, enlightening, perceptive, noble or anything else -- than getting drunk is.

I was caught smoking pot in a parking lot. The cops just took my pot, let me see that they were stomping it into the snow and returned my pipe..
All night I couldn't get over that they just handed my pipe back to me.
