Trying to get an idea of what I'd like to do this summer for work.
What are people here hoping to do?
Golf course maintainence is a great way of spending summer. Last year I ran some hockey camps, that was fun. Wouldn't mind something new but I'm not too sure what.
I'm sure anyone in uni right now is going through this same process...It's that time of year.
I've done irrigation for a few summers. I'm doing practicums this year, but I did it for 3 summers previously. The job itself is pretty easy, but you do a lot of digging. I had an awesome boss and the guys I worked with were great, so, that made going to work enjoyable. You get to be outside all day... umm... you get to dig stuff.... umm... yeah.
Golf course jobs are sweet. I worked at wintergreen when I was 16. Best job ever. We just screwed around on carts and had races. Tee'd them up, including the gargantuan transport cart. That sucker could move.
Me I'm in the Co-op program @ UofC for my first year so I should hopefully have a decent job doing stuff that actually relates to my degree.
Last year I was a server at the Ricky's in Market Mall. I made decent money cause of tips, but I hated my manager cause I kept asking for morning shifts (WAY better tips) and she kept giving me night shifts (terrible tips). Despite that I still made the most of the servers that worked there but she for some reason hated me and "fired" me on my second last day.
And of course you can always do landscaping to make some decent coin.
I also have a bunch of friends that work for Mosaic doing marketing stuff like coke zero, stride, etc.
The all important question I always go through: Have fun or make lots of money.
Restaurants, warehouses, misc. laborer work.
If I'm not mistaken I think it was me who posted this thread last year. I think I got plenty of responses.
I ended up working in a warehouse (bridgebrand). It is night shift, but the pay is really good, 4 days a week (still get full hrs) and they have a cafeteria that is extremely cheap to eat at.
I'll be living in the south this year, and their up in the north otherwise I would seriously look into going back there.
If you are planning on working there PM me...
Last year I found a job through Consumer Impact Marketing. Try their website at http://www.cimweb.com/home.aspx. I just looked there and didn't see any jobs for summer students in Calgary. However I got my job there after I had already returned from school last summer.

Altogether between high school and college I've spent six summers doing this(the old man's a superintendent). Yep, definitely a great way to spend a summer, especially once you've got a year or two under your belt so you're not stuck with a weed wacker in your hand the entire four months, and get to just cruise around on a mower.
Although I'm thinkin about retiring my golf course maintenance career this summer, I'm getting pretty tired of the 6am-2:30pm summer shifts. But if you haven't worked there before, I highly recommend it. Plus you get to hit on all the hot clubhouse and beer cart chicks all summer.
Treeplanting. I made $30,000 over two summers. It was just straightforward donkey work and it paid for college. Just don't get anyone pregnant for a couple years afterwards. The pesticides cause flipper babies.

Golf Course for the win. Sure you start early (6:00am), but you're done by 2:00 and have most of the day ahead of you. Best way to have a job but still have a summer.

Where did you find out about this and how does one go about applying? Is there a specific organization or what? Any info would be great. Thanks!
The City released a bunch of summer jobs for university students in the summer. THer are a TON of them, in many different areas. They pay something like $19 / hour, not bad for a student.
I love summer at the COC 'cause there's alot of hot women around. Can't complain =)
Worked in an insurance office last summer, it was a great experience for me. Definitely an atmosphere I wasn't used to (the whole office thing) but I learned a ton.
This summer I just hope to get more of my music published, maybe play piano in some establishments every now and then.

I applied today for a park worker position with them. Union job, union wage, union laziness . Is there a special site for the student jobs or is it just in with the rest of them?
