Default Stampeders sack veteran linebacker Clark

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/C...47871-sun.html

LBs Brian Clark, Cornelius Anthony and Rob Rodriguez were released by the Stampeders cleaned house because they will continue to run a four-three system this season.

Sad to see Clarkie gone but I guess with Armour signed, they didn't have any room for him. I also feel for Anthony as I thought he was the best LB we have while Creehan was still around but I think they find him small. Rodriguez on the other hand showed some flashes but he was very inconsistent and opt-injured. I can see Scott Coe being relegated to backup Canadian LB sometime this season or maybe next because Neil Ternovatsky showed he is ready to take over from Coe last season.

I sure hope Clark does not sign with anyone in the West. I still think he is a good LB and might come back to haunt us.

I would have thought they would keep these guys around for TC to see how everyone pans out. Sad to see Clark go as you said. He's a real leader and you know he gives it all he's got. It was too bad they made him sit out of last years play off game. He deserved to play in it regardless of ratio issues.

It will be interesting to see the defence the Stamps put up this season!

Yep to me it was the real weak link. The offense was hot and cold but the defense was mostly just cold. A revamp is a good thing!!

Good. He's overrated. I didn't really want him playing a starters role again. Kind of concerned that we're releasing a lot of LB though. Maybe our defence won't play with any and just go straight to a 6-0-6 defence.

Ricky Ray and his dink'n'dunk passing game would love that.

Man, what a difference from only a couple years ago when we were rolling out the Four Horsemen, we had easily the best LB's in the league.

Clark-Grace-Coe-White, with Cornelius Anthony and Marc Calixte as the promising young back-ups waiting in the wings.

Gotta love that SMS!

dont think it was the SMS, All 4 of them definitely lost a step or two.

Anthony, I don't understand.

Grace and white hardly played after being released from the Stamps. If the same happen to Coe and Clark then they made the right decision. Better to cut a player early than too late when he's giving up game winning TD's.

I guess. My only concern now on the Stamps D with the release of Clark and Coe is where is the leadership going to come from on that side of the ball? I agree that Clark and especially Coe have both lost a step, but they were team leaders. And looking at the roster, that's a very, very young D we're fielding. Releasing one I can see. But both? And I agree about Anthony. That one boggles my mind.

Actually what this really makes me wonder is if the Stamps have uncovered some gems at the LB position over the offseason...

I hope thats the case, but till they play live game, can they really tell how the guys will play? So I hope they're not basing these cuts on the gems they've found.

Remember last year, when we brought in a LB, can't remember his name, but he was suppose to be really good, had a great camp but nowhere to be seen in games. Barker raved about him, but ended up cutting him after 5 games or so.

As for the leadership, It'll be a young group and there'll be someone who'll step up and take those roles. Armour a veteran could be the guy, Patrick, whos been around for a while now. Young is a candidate, Browner can lead with his play. That'll come as the guys battle it our for spots.

They were really high on that Armour guy plus there's another guy they signed (can't remember his name) who can play LB and DB. It looks like Trey Young will also be moved to LB position and Mark T will be the #1 on non-import LB depth position.

Wasn't his name Tony Bua? Something along those lines. He was supposed to be a one man wrecking crew in camp and did nothing once the games started.

Bua dished out a few nice hits, but that's about all he did.

Why would you release a Canadian linebacker like that? As if the corps wasn't inexperienced enough last year...ya we got the Armour but does he have that much on Coe or Clark? Plus the ratio...

If anything I'm actually more surprised we dropped Cornelius Anthony. He was supposed to be the future of our LB core. Must've been more behind the scenes with him...

Or the switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3.

If we run a Non-Import safety, which is Karikari, then the ratio won't be affected. We could use an all American LB core.
