Knew someone back in HS who did exactly that, blew his head off. Even left a suicide note saying he got such highs and lows using weed and couldn't quit using. We suspect he was in one of those low points when he did it.

I dabbled with it a few times during High School and through university, but never often - maybe about 9-10 times over the span of 8 years. Then, after I graduated University and went to New Zealand, everyone was doing it down there, so my bro and I became regular weed smokers because it was the thing to do. I can't do it now because of my job, nor would I be interested in it anymore; it's a past chapter in my life and that's final.
It was interesting though - when we were in NZ, they mix it with tobacco so it isn't so strong. When they asked us to roll a fattie, we just rolled it with all weed, and they couldn't believe that that's how its smoked in Canada. They thought we were nuts.

For a small percentage of people weed is addictive as any drug, from my experience. I smoke once a month, which is quite enjoyable. Thank god I don't have an addictive personality. The other side of that is, I can't do anything for too long before getting bored.

I smoke up maybe 3 or 4 times a week at most. Usually a couple hours before I goto bed. Pop in a movie chow down on some munchies and then goto bed. It's how I roll.

What i can't understand is why would someone would slowly destroy their lungs by inhaling a super heated product. Surely there must be others ways one can get their so called high.

I started smoking weed in high school, and have been using it now for about 10 years. It doesn't hit me like it used to, but I really enjoy the high and enjoy smoking with buddies. Especially Sunday morning dubie tours.
I usually wont smoke up if I have certain functions to go to, or say have things to do that require multitasking. If I am doing something that basically requires one train of thought, like fishing, drumming, or dirtbiking, then I'm gonna get funky fried.
I don't want to see weed become legalized. I would prefer decriminalization for possession.
...aaaand it's time for another snibdibblit!

You can eat it.
Why don't regular weed smokers care about their lungs? Same reason binge drinkers don't care about their liver. The fun is now, the consequences are 30 years in the future.

Personally I enjoy it. I don't drink due to a minor allergy, so it's my drug of choice for getting inebriated. I need to do it in a situation where focus isn't necessary (long conversations, driving, studying etc.). My favorite times are when I just want to wind down and be stupid for an evening. I'll usually just throw on some music or watch a comedy followed by the best sleep. God I love going to sleep afterwards because it just makes my body feel heavy.
The downside is that my lungs don't seem to love it very much. It usually bothers my throat more than most. While I don't believe there is enough actual testing to say with 100% confidence that it is X times worse than cigarette smoke, I also don't believe that it is harmless. The human lung was not designed to take in anything besides the standard air we breath, so I try to keep it that way. Personally I really enjoy the body buzz of ingesting it. Takes a little more time and is quite a bit more expensive, but I prefer the feeling and health benefits.

I used be all over that. For about 8 years I smoked between a half ounce and an ounce a day. Don't remember the majority of high school and college. Wake up, smoke a bowl. Eat breakfast, smoke a bowl. Drive to work, smoke a bowl. You get the idea. Ran a skate shop, and we all constantly blazed then as well. But in 2004 my beautiful daughter was born, and the decision to either continue being a smokestack or buy her diapers was an easy one.
Since then, I smoke maybe once every three or four months, if that. Don't miss it at all, but don't particularly care if someone else does. That's all I got.

Then comes the i should have taken better care of my health when they're on their death bed. My late uncle destroyed his lungs and liver with cigarettes and alcohol and said much the same thing. It's not pleasent to watch a relative die a slow painful death.
To each their own i guess.

I'm glad its readily available... I really dislike drinking in a big way, I have a lot more fun getting high for the evening than getting drunk, and I feel a lot better the next day. I find a lot of people who have only tried it a couple of times and got paranoid to be a common experience; the paranoia disapates as the smoker understands there is no 'real reason' to feel paranoid, it's a minor side-effect of the drug and one that can be pretty easily consciously controlled (though not your first time or two).

A half ounce to an ounce a day? Retail that's like $120-$200 worth a day. That's a lot.

Well, the end result of that slow destruction occurs in the later years of one's life (generally) when one is enfeebled anyway, so my mentality is "would I rather have perfect lungs when my hips/eyes/knees/back/heart/kidney/liver doesn't work anyway, or would I rather have some really good times when I'm young and healthy?"
Also, I believe that by the time I'm old and suffering, they will have invented tiny robots that will live in my body and absolve me of the consequences of poor decisions made in my youth.

Here's the Canadian Senate's take on pot, I found it simply reinforced my already held beliefs, but some may be surprised:
http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabi...govreport1.pdf
And if you don't want the super-heated air, this is the savvy pot-smokers method of choice:
http://www.volcanovaporizersystem.com/
Also, remember, weed has been used medically for over 4000 years:
http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101021104/history.html
Otherwise, I'll go from smoking it daily, numerous times a day to stopping completely during say finals, or right now, as I have a professional exam on Thursday, without any problems at all.

My uncle was not enfeebled in his older age. It can also happen when one is quite younger too. Lung Cancer is not just a disease of the aged.
There's an elderly lady in our gym that's in her 70's. She hikes in the mountains on a regular basis and has a fitness level that is better than some of the younger people that use the facility. The pont is you can have relatively good health in your later years if you take better care of your health when your younger

Wasn't Mercury also used for medical purposes for a long time too? That turned out well.

Used to do it fairly regularily especially when snowboarding, going to a concert or watching X-Files....and then stopped when we had our baby...I miss it sometimes, but wouldn't want to have it around all the time as it would be too easy to slip back into old habits...which reminds me is anyone going to the 311 concert
As for driving, no way should you do that stoned...but I suspect that it is less hazardous that driving tired or on a cell. My father in law is an ex-cop and I would bet that when it comes to dealing with people under the influence potheads are much less of a nuicance than drunks...the bigger problem with weed comes with organized crime so there is something to be said for outright legalization+taxation
