5 Months without Drinking...

I would like to share with everyone that i have gone 5 whole long months without a single drop of alcohol...

I had some helath issues around a year ago, and had to lay off the booze for the time being. I wasn't an alcoholic or anything but I liked to drink almost every day..

This christmas was the most boring time ever, my family likes to have parties which involve tonnes of alcohol and sleeping on the floor after.. I hope to be fully recovered before i go to Mexico in May...

I noticed that baseball is boring without beer and family events are eyerollers without Jack.

I really do miss beer a lot.

Congrats ony your 5 months of self prohabition.

that deserves congratulations in my books.
I too, have not had a drink in 4.5 years due to a health issue.
do I miss a rye and coke, damn straight, but ya know I can do without.
cold non-alcoholized beer with clam is just as good.
I just wish there were more options out there.
I was in Cancun a couple of years ago and found non-alcoholized tequila in a can. IT WAS FRIGGIN AWESOME. and I cant find the stuff anywhere.
*sigh*
oh well, back to my diet pepsi...

Wow I could not do that.

Does that make me an alcoholic?

All about balance for me. A drink a day works for me. sometimes none at all.

A nice nightcap before bed - rye and coke is the best remedy for a hard day's work.

Not trying to throw it in your face though! Moderation is key.

Congrats BBQ.

I have always found that laying off the booze for a while can have a lot of positives:

1. Your thinking becomes much quicker and more efficient
2. You sleep better
3. You can handle stress better
4. Your less reactive

The rule of thumb we used to use was to stop drinking for one day a week, one week a month and one month a year.

I agree, moderation is the key.

I've successfully quit drinking a couple of times. Back in '97 I stopped drinking for three years. Then I was able to only have a drink here or there (I'm talking months between drinks). Recently I was having a couple of stiff rye and cokes before bed on the weekends (3 oz. per drink). I haven't done that since New Years eve.

Seriously, 1-2 drinks per day for men, and 1 drink per day for women, has been shown in many studies to be very good for your health (especially red wine).

It does not work if you bank them - 14 drinks on Friday will not have the same effect. Moderation is key.

I am planning on having wine on an almost daily basis. No, I'm not planning on banking the days I miss either.

Its a tradition to top up your glass of wine before its empty, that way it still counts as the first drink.

the funny part was we all had money on us, our waitress was awful, she didn't get our orders right, she bitched at us for saying something. Plus she had little B's...

If she only had C's or D's....

Drinking if the cause of a lot of problems, but "responsible" drinking can also lead to a lot of goodtimes.

Hope that when you feel better you can find that all important balance.
