I don't like facebook anymore, it's the new myspace. I just use it to see what friends outside the country are doing. I haven't updated it in 7 months.
Sell your company buddy before it goes down the crapper!

Facebook became stupid as soon as they opened it to third party apps. A few of them are useful and neat, but I'm sick of being bombarded with daily requests to join the Pirate vs. Ninja fight or whatever other pointless shenanigans.

Agreed.
Why is he sticking around anyway? If he could get 15 billion dollars, why not do it? I suppose if someone else was to buy it, they would change it and it wouldn't be "his" anymore.

x2.
Every time I open it I have invitations to join some dumb thing and the home page feed is riddled with crap about my friends buying other friends for $1,271 and a sponsored link to a realtor in Vancouver.
If it wasn't for the pictures (I love looking at friends' pictures) and the fact that people use it for communication more than email these days, I'd just delete my account.
The other thing that I like about it is that it does keep me in touch with people overseas and in other cities. Where ordinarily (in the strictly email days) I would have to either receive an email from them or randomly think about them and email them, I now see their picture pop up on facebook and I think "haven't talked to him or her lately... I should send a message".

 Posted the 6 millionth post!

The worst part is that all the hot chicks hide their profiles now! How the hell am I supposed to hit on Facebook cuties when I'll probably look creepy and get rejected for a friend request?? Lame!
On a more serious note (or lack thereof), I just changed all my information on my profile and my profile picture to everything related to the old 1980's Sierra games. I now have a nice shot of King Graham from Kings Quest 5, and I've converted to "Leisure-suit Larryism". Everyone thinks I'm nuts; I'm just mocking the poor site's downward spiral...=)

Since this started to be a Facebook bitching thread...
Facebook kind of moved from the underground to the mainstream when I joined. And then the moment I left, it started on its downward spiral. I could draw a graph, but I know I'm right.
I never understood the $15 billion valuation of Facebook. Any netizen could tell that it was just a fad, and it would die out within a few years.

I only like it to keep tabs on what all my friends are doing.
Nothing else.

I think why most people hate Facebook's financial success is because it's one of those simple ideas that they thought could have came up with, but now are jealousy they aren't a 20 something internet billionaire.

I've never been on the website, but I know what it is. What you described is exactly what generated my post, 2 word comment and emoticon!
So simple.
I applaud the guy for sure.

Damn straight I wish I could have come up with it, I just can't figure out why he doesn't cash in and become a jetsetter or something.

Yeah.
I'd be posting from my villa in Tuscany, watching my french maid iron the pants I was about to wear to the helipad, on my way to Ibiza.

You need to download yourself a copy of un(eff)facebook. The (eff) is actually a word that the censor will filter out, you can guess what it is. It blocks all non-default facebook apps, so everyone's page just looks like the default page (wall, pictures, notes, personal info and that's it); you don't have to wade through piles of crap to find the person's wall. Nor do you have to put up with annoying requests for apps. Best thing I've installed in a long time.

Its a script that runs with the firefox greasemonkey addon btw, so if you don't have that installed, you'll need to get it first

Didn't he just sell a small portion of it for something crazy like $400M? If I just had that kind of payday- really what's the difference between having $400M and the billions? He is rich beyond most people's dreams, and now pays a team of people to give a rat's bum for him so he can golf all day.

I've never met the guy, but know people who have. He is by all accounts one of the most arrogant people around, and he's in the biz to win.
According to legend, he set up his office within sight of Google, and put his sign facing their campus.
Google and MS are falling overthemsleves trying to make their sites like facebook in a lot of ways. And make no mistake, they are worried. Social network could replace search as the defacto operating system of the internet, though it may not be facebook that does it.
It's now the 6th (i think) most popular site in Canada. And growing.
I don't get the charm personally, but the business is fascinating.

A couple months ago, a couple friends and I thought it would be great to start a personal network organizer online software that would take your e-mail, cell phone numbers, facebook contacts, outlook organizer contacts, et al and organize it into one global organizer. 3 weeks later, we found out another company had just done it and sold it for $240M.
Beaten to the punch.

Well ask the guys at Friendster how fast that value can be wiped away...a few years ago they rejected a bid of 800 million, i believe from google...and now that site is prob worthless...well at least in comparison
and technically that is all projcted by the stake MS bought....once the new thing comes along in a few years..facebook and buddy will worth nothing...because no one is going to give them money...but he did make a nice dime...from MS
