Celebrated Square Root Day

Did you ever want to thank someone so much....
.....but couldn't?
Man, I was driving back to Okotoks today, and was passing the Holy Trinity High School. I've been a little short on cash lately (Flames playoff ticket invoices were just sent out), and I was bombing down the kind-of-a-highway-but-not-really road that passes by the school at around 90 or 100km's.
I was completely off in my own little world, when all of a sudden I see this truck full of construction workers flashing their highbeams like mad, and waving there hands out the window at me. I'm going to honest, my pre-concieved notion of constructions workers led me to mutter 'what do these a-holes want?" . I drove for another two seconds before it hit me, and I slammed on the brakes, and slowed down to 30 km/h, and sure enough, the cops were hiding behind a sign with their radar gun.
Although it was kind of awkward because by the time I got to the cops, I realized i was actually in a 50 zone, so all four cops just kind of stopped what they were doing, and gave me a funny look as I passed by at 30km's.
Anyways, these guys went out of their way and did an awesome deed for me, and looking back now, I wish I could have givin them more than a "what the hell do these idiots want" look as I passed by them. So if any of you guys read Calgarypuck, thanks a lot, you made my day.
Any other stories out there of times you wished you could get the chance to thank someone for something they did, but do to circumstances, you weren't able to?

I wanna give a shout out to the dude that spun me home the night I got kicked out of the Cradle of Filth gig at the Sun Center. It was -10 and I was walking down Crowchild (kinda drunk) in a tshirt.
I was attempting to walk to Elbow and Anderson. Some guy pulled over and muttered something about me freezing to death, asked where I was headed, and it was more or less on his way.
That was pretty nice of him. And no, Locke, there was no hanky panky.

One Sunday morning, very early, I was heading to a volleyball tournament way down south, and was giving the team captain a ride as well. We got viciously lost, and when we finally found our way I was bombing down a road beside fish creek park at about 100 in a 50. It was still before 8, and we hadn't seen a single car since we'd been off deerfoot, and the first one we did see was flashing his lights like mad at me. At first I thought he was just mad at me for being a jerk and going way too fast, but it turns out there was a cop set up on a side road with no traffic just waiting for a jerk like me to crest the hill to make his whole morning of staring at an empty road worth it. Thanks to that guy!

good. call.
i've had this happen to me a couple times being stranded after shows. walked from downtown to the university a bunch which isn't that bad. two of the worst ones were from the back alley to the university and from downtown to mckenzie on the shoulder of deerfoot.
speaking of that particular show - god DAMN the security check sucked that night and the worst part was being forced to wait outside while they checked everyone. like you, i was just wearing a t-shirt and froze my balls off. missed the first band too cause security wasn't letting anybody in.

yeah, it is too bad, however the cops plans were foiled by the good deed of those construction workers, hence this thread.

I'm surprised not 90% of the posts in this thread recommended you going to the nearest police station and turning yourself in.
You know, with all the goody two-shoes drivers that are CP members

You're welcome!!...
ROFL.. I had to, I do that quite often, and almost always if it's just 1 guy or girl in the car behind me. No one has ever said thanks so I figured I'd take that one.

The cops lost my sympathy on anything traffic related when some of my friends in the Alberta Shariffs told me about their plans to run "decoy" cars (Ie unmarked random cars with rims and regular plates, driven by non-uniformed people) to drive at 150-160 up and down the QE 2 highway to try and bait speeders into following behind them. What's going to happen if one of these bait drivers gets into an accident?

Not only is that dangerous and stupid, its pretty unethical. I'd say it borders on entrapment.
I'd hope that if one of these bait drivers gets into an accident, they throw the book at these guys and that any private party involved would get litigious.

I'm calling BS on that. The police aren't allowed to do that. How I know is I once got pulled over after following a marked police car at speed upwards of 190 km/h. I was about 3 km behind (thank you flat and straight Manitoba Highways.) She eventually slowed down and I passed her doing 3 km under the limit. She gave me a ticket and I fought it. I was not only found not guilty, but the procecuter personally appologized to me and she received a slap from the RCMP.
As for thanking people but couldn't, on the road there's many stories similar to those already shared. Walking 1/2 way across the city drunk and getting picked up by some random person. People who have stopped when my car was broken down offerring to help. And a snow plow operator who pulled me out of a ditch once after I had lost control of my car.
