I also enjoyed one of Desmond's episodes, "Flashes Before Your Eyes" that also has to do with time-jumping in a sense.
Daniel is a great character as well. Out of the boat people, Ireally only enjoy him and Lapidus, the other two haven't done much for me yet ...
I must be a total softie, but I was cheering when Desmond got the call through to Penny. That had to be (for me) one of the best moments of the entire series to this point.

I agree. The only good thing about Eggtown was the end. And even then, it took me a day to realize that it was Aaron, not a handicapped boy named Eric.
This episode was great. Desmond is a very likable character. An interesting thing that happened that no one mentioned is Mr. Widmore buying the log book from the Black Rock. That's probably how Penny knew about the island and why she was searching for him.

Way to shoot holes in my thesis you basdart.
But yours makes more sense this morning.

I like the way they tie in info from outside the show.
The character who plays Daniel, Jeremy Davies, starred in a the movie Million Dollar Hotel. In it, his love interest was played by Milla Jovovich - a character named Eloise. (that is from Lostpedia)

His last name Faraday is significant as well.
From wikipedia: Micheal Faraday
September 22, 1791 – August 25, 1867) was an English chemist and physicist (or natural philosopher, in the terminology of that time) who contributed to the fields of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. Faraday studied the magnetic field around a conductor carrying a DC electric current, and established the basis for the magnetic field concept in physics. He discovered electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and electrolysis. He established that magnetism could affect rays of light and that there was an underlying relationship between the two phenomena. [2][3] His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices formed the foundation of electric motor technology, and it was largely due to his efforts that electricity became viable for use in technology.

If that is the case he can stop the entire crash of the plane and everything that happens after that.
Also this explains how Desmond could see the future on the island, Charlies death etc.......can't believe I just said this explains how he can tell the future, but then again I am a fan of Heroes as well.

I think they addressed that when Desmond said something like, "So we are changing the future.", to which Daniel replied that no one could change the future.
And in the Charlie things, he saved Charlie's life a number of times - changing the outcome.

I just thought of something.
-When we first see Daniel, he is catatonic in front of the TV in the episode with the flashbacks of the helicopter crew.
-We learn last night that Desmond was his constant.
-One of the crew members in last night episode that "Daniel can't even help himself" when talking about Minkosky(?) and Desmond's condition.
This means to me that Daniel was also stuck jumping through time and it ended upon meeting Desmond on the Island in 2004.

That's right... and he was crying but didn't know why. It would make sense if he just leaped....
Hmmmm, I think you might be onto something.

Just watched this episode. Great Television!!!
Anyone think that this is related to the sickness that was discussed in previous seasons. We didn't know too much about it other than it was it caused fever, delerium, then death. Those symptoms seem to match the experience of the time travelers. W/out a physicist to explain things to you, an observer might just assume they had caught some kind of virus and were randomly ranting.
It also clearly takes some combination of things to time travel based on Daniel's comment about being exposed to radiation or electromagnetism recently. Explains how some people could go to the island without catching the sickness, while others would.

Cool.
Who was it who asked if Desmond had recently been subjected to radiation or electro-magnatism? Because that is what Daniel was working with in his lab.

My only problem with this theory is that the jumping seems to kill you. It seems kind of unlikely that Daniel would be able to survive so long jumping when others seem to die fairly quickly. So if he was in the future/past state while watching the tv, it seems unlikely he would survive to make it to the island.
Now when you start jumping, however, it seems to cause you to go crazy in two separate time periods (a random point in the past and when you were exposed to the storm in the present).
Now that I think about it, it also seems odd that the mouse went into the future when exposed, but Desmond goes into the past when exposed (presumably in the storm). So I guess if Daniel was exposed he could have happened either in the past from his own machine or in the present (I am taking the island as the present) when traveling to the island through the storm.

the storm wasn't the cause of his exposure, it was when the magnet device in the bunker exploded. otherwise we'd have seen Sayid doing the jumping thing too. i think Desmond's jumping was triggered when he was brought back to "real time" after getting far enough away from the island

I'm not saying the storm was the cause alone. There is some kind of barrier around the island that creates the storm that in combination with previous exposure to radiation or electromagnetism causes the time jumping thing.

I forgot he was crying. Maybe he had just realized he had a shot at finding Desmond.

A couple of theories...
I think that Mr. Widmore is the man behind the efforts to get Ben now and in the future...and is the guy that Sayid is trying to kill.
The group of 'Others' that Ben hooked up with to kill the original Darma staff, were the sailors on the Black Rock

I forgot about the Black Rock, I just never put two and two together on that one.
How on Earth did they get the 1st mate's log book off the island?

In the season 3 finale, when Jack went to the funeral, it was closed casket, right? Was it shown that Jack looked in the coffin to confirm the dead person was the person who was supposed to be in the coffin?
