I had a girl who coveted my position make an accusation against me even though the closest we got was walking past each other in the kitchen. (And no I didn't do the accidental pants falling down tripping move), and I was basically told that my denial would mean nothing, and that in the case of her word vs mine in the absense of witness statements, or physical evidence, hers carried more weight. Basically there was no point in defending myself or my track record with the company because the company wanted the issue to go away.

After I left, I found out that she had gotten a nice little raise and a shiny new position in the company.

Shockingly, mine was in a retail environment.

Edit - If you want to see a job situation rife with sexual harrasment issues, accusations, people cheating on their spouses at work.

go work for a major big box retailer with a semi progressive HR policy.

About a year ago I had to take "Human Sensitivity Training" or some such thing (no, not just me, everyone in the office). It was quite exciting. All the HR folks spent the the morning explaining to us why we shouldn't stare at our co-workers genitals and/or breasts and, more importantly, why we shouldn't touch our co-workers genitals or breasts.

Later on one of the HR people told me that it is quite embarrassing having to tell a room full of alleged "professionals" not to act like horny adolescent chimpanzees, but they have to do it because we were partly owned by some big American company.

Men in the education system get the proverbial shaft all the time. I would never want to be a teacher. Long hours (the work is way longer than school bell to school bell), low pay compared to other professionals and the constant threat of accusations of impropriety whether you did something or not. Plus, you get the added bonus of additional cattiness that comes from a female dominated profession. If I were forced to be a teacher I'd probably put a bullet in my head before the year was out.
