Mary Kay Letourneau, the parents called her a criminal and sex offender. Her mail students called her the best teacher they ever had.

Its easier to fire a person then to investigate the claim.

Workplaces in a lot of ways are a lot less team oriented because of that fear.

I had a girl who coveted my position make an accusation against me even though the closest we got was walking past each other in the kitchen. (And no I didn't do the accidental pants falling down tripping move), and I was basically told that my denial would mean nothing, and that in the case of her word vs mine in the absense of witness statements, or physical evidence, hers carried more weight. Basically there was no point in defending myself or my track record with the company because the company wanted the issue to go away.

After I left, I found out that she had gotten a nice little raise and a shiny new position in the company.
What was that movie with Demi Moore and Michael Douglas?

HATE THAT. Make us girls look incredibly bad
Hope you found a better job at a nicer place. She may have gotten a nice raise and position but she'll 'screw' that company into the ground.

Disclosure.

Shockingly, mine was in a retail environment.

Edit - If you want to see a job situation rife with sexual harrasment issues, accusations, people cheating on their spouses at work.

go work for a major big box retailer with a semi progressive HR policy.

Someone should make a soap opera based on one.

Mary Kay LeTourneau, the teacher who had sex with a 13-year-old boy, was arrested after she was found with him in a car. The teacher will be sent back to prison, and the boy is enjoying his highest approval rating ever....Kid!...Let me talk to this kid. Kid! You're too young to realize it now, but you're doin' good! You're doin' real good! I don't know how you carry yourself, how you dress, but whatever you're doin', keep doin' it. You're doin' all right for 13....I know, it's...touching. Um...

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/97/97fupdate.phtml

And finally, in Burien, Washington, elementary school teacher Mary Kay LeTourneau pled guilty this week to having sex with a sixth grade student whose child she bore in May. Miss LeTourneau has been branded as a "sex offender" or, as the kids refer to her, "The Greatest Teacher Ever." ... [applause, cheers]

Amy Poehler: Mary Kay Letourneau and her former student, Vili Fualaau, were married Thursday night. According to witnesses, she wore Vera Wang, while he wore Spider-Man. [applause]

About a year ago I had to take "Human Sensitivity Training" or some such thing (no, not just me, everyone in the office). It was quite exciting. All the HR folks spent the the morning explaining to us why we shouldn't stare at our co-workers genitals and/or breasts and, more importantly, why we shouldn't touch our co-workers genitals or breasts.

Later on one of the HR people told me that it is quite embarrassing having to tell a room full of alleged "professionals" not to act like horny adolescent chimpanzees, but they have to do it because we were partly owned by some big American company.

No they have to do it because it's happened in the past!
Same thing with the "Culture In The Workplace" Workshop I had to attend yesterday.

Well that was the reason she gave me for the big formal presentation -- that it was a legal thing that they didn't bother with before the American company got involved.

Man, life would be sweet if I was a chick.

I'd get to claim sexual harassment, get my bosses job and earn 75 percent of his wage!

Not to mention wear a skirt to work without people looking at you funny. I hate how close-minded some people can be.

That was a good one:

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/04/04qfunhouse.phtml

Announcer: Businesses are filled with working women, with corresponding breasts and vaginas.

[ show Frank looking about the room with an uneasy look on his face ]

Announcer: As a man, you want to have sex with all of them. [ Frank's gaze even falls upon an older-looking woman ] But approaching a woman at work should be done with extreme caution.. [ various women cross in front of Frank's desk from both sides ] ..to avoid a sexual harassment lawsuit.

Announcer: See? It can be done. You can have sex with women at work without losing your job, by following a few simple rules:

Be Handsome..

Be Attractive..

and Don't Be Unattractive.

Men in the education system get the proverbial shaft all the time. I would never want to be a teacher. Long hours (the work is way longer than school bell to school bell), low pay compared to other professionals and the constant threat of accusations of impropriety whether you did something or not. Plus, you get the added bonus of additional cattiness that comes from a female dominated profession. If I were forced to be a teacher I'd probably put a bullet in my head before the year was out.

I'm convinced Troutman bills his clients for time used 'researching' hilarious SNL lines.

You forgot to mention the students who treat teachers as nothing.

For that kind of Scrilla, I'd want Jackie Chiles humour.
