That was ME! Thank you very much.
It went down like this... Jay announced to the crowd before the show they would be doing the "Jay's Open Mic" segment. I was sitting in the first row of the audience, directly infront to the big screen the guests walk around. Already had my question prepared, in part why I wore my jersey. When the segment came up I was the first to raise my hand. I ask if he was a hockey fan, and if he could pronounce the name on the back of my jersey properly. His first reply was no, he's not a hockey fan. Then I stood up and turned around so he could see the jersey, which he looked at for longer than it showed on tv and said "I don't know... looks kinda like F-U to me". He then asked the correct pronounciation which I told him and I was going to say Phaneuf as in Dion Phaneuf and you should have him as a guest but he interrupted asking which team it was (that was going to be my alternate question, if he knew what team and city the jersey represents) nd I told him the Calgary Flames. There were 2 other Flames fans in jerseys there, sitting in the opposite end (where I pointed) and they hollered when I said the team name. Jay repeated the name and then said "see out here we have the West Hollywood Flames, but that's something different" which got a big laugh and then he wished me (the team) luck and moved on to a real flamer's question.
Jay's such a quick witted and bright guy. His jokes may seem easy to some but he is so fast to riffle them off it's great. His questions to 3 audience members pre-show got everyone going.
Kevin Eubanks looks OLD in person
Russel Peters was the best part of the show. The dumb blonde was just to dumb, though she did have a few decent jokes. Putting her fist in her mouth was her best trick... which Russel quite enjoyed. To think I could have gone to the show the night before and seen Russel Crowe. Oh well, I think this was better. Unfortunately it didn't help our luck any....
Side note - the NBC page who held the mic for me had come up to me (and one of the other 2 Flames fans) in the line-up and asked jokingly if we had heard the last announcement about no Flames jerseys allowed. He then told me how lucky I was to be getting in there wearing it. Was a nice guy, and I know one of the other pages - the one who conducted the studio tour I took earlier where America Ferrera walked right passed me - was a Kings fan to. He recconized my fandom by the Flames hoodie and Kipper hat I was wearing. On my entire trip I'm sporting the Flaming C everywhere I go.
