Default Coming To Calgary For Stampede

So, as the title says, I've been invited to come down this year for Stampede, and i'll be there for about a little over 7 days (July 4th to 12th). Anyway, a couple questions for you resident Calgarians to help me out with:

1) Cheap flights? I'm coming from Toronto, and at this point, basically, each ticket for each way is coming up to about $400 with taxes and all, which is basically $800 or so. If it stays this way, there's no way I'm spending that on a flight alone, considering I can go down South for an all inclusive for that price. Anyone know when/where I can get tickets/promo's for half that price?

2) Assuming I do get cheap ticket, where are the best places to go during Stampede?

3) Where are the best places to go for the ladies?

You can probably get a cheap flight when Westjet does a seat sale, they just had one, so keep your eye out.

Just as long as you are willing to actually leave your hotel This is just in reference to a poster a few years back who was in Calgary on holidays during Stampede time and was afraid to leave his room or something to that extent

I'm not a drinker, but the beer gardens are fun. My girlfriends and I always meet up there. It's great to be with a huge group of friends at the beer garden.

You should probably also check out Nashville North, even if you're not a big country music fan.

Since Cowboys was torn down, I wonder what bar is going to take over the outdoor tent? Perhaps the Roadhouse? They are the only bar with that kind of space.

Ranchmans has a huge tent.. I agree with Fotze, go on the all-inclusive.. Unless you have your heart set on a big fair with the constant smell of manure..

My choice was to go on the all-inclusive, but because of the invite, giving my word to come (if the price was right), others I'm coming with wanna try this, and the friendly Calgary ladies (in comparison to Toronto), it looks like Stampede it is. I've heard of WestJet's seatsales, and any idea when these occur and the approximate prices I'm looking at?

Save your money, the Stampede is nothing to write home about. Overpriced, overhyped.

Sign up for Westjet mail. They will send you email newsletters informing you of their latest seat sales. A little over $400 should get you a round trip ticket.

It's funny how many of you are PROUD Calgarians yet when someone asks whats good to do and see during Stampede you tell him to go somewhere else?

I mean come on. It may be boring for you because it happens every year but for new people it is quite an experience. wow

I've spent all 24 years of my life here, It's my home but I hate this city.. it sucks. It's gone to crap in the past 5 years, it's pretty mindblowing..

With that said, The Stampede can be really fun if you're from out of town and you SHOULD make this trip.

Enjoy!

It's Stampede... why would they have to? Maybe last minute tickets, but even then, that's a gamble.

Thanks for everyone's input. Dion, thanks for that link, I'm sure that'll come in handy.

I think some of you guys are bitter that I'll come down and steal all your women. I'm actually looking forward to the trip, I did hear the Stampede is a great time with the constant food and tailgating for no reason and stuff. Should be an experience.

The Stampede is what people make it for themselves. The stampede can be expensive, but it's not just the grounds, it's the atmosphere of the whole city for two weeks. The entire downtown core is into to it, and you can have fun doing different things all day, every day.

The people that say it sucks, usally end up being the kind of people who just aren't into partying too much. It's kind of like if I looked at the latest ballet coming through town and said "oh it sucks, and the ticket was too expensive, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone". Well, I hated ballet to begin with, so why give my opnion on the matter.

Sure.

There was 'one' person in this thread that said to not waste money on the Stampede.

No?
