I'm glad I'm single on Valentines Day, I don't have buy anything extravagant just because it's a commericalized holiday.

My wife is getting herself a Macbook Air today, so I imagine that whatever gift I give her tonight will be met with a 'uhuh, that's nice.'
I am making a fancy dinner, though.

Well, I won't see my wife today , so I can't really give her anything.
Se got her gift already on Monday, a new cell phone. She's not big on expensive, impractical gifts either.

Sent her a card... my g/f is in Calgary and I'm not. I'll do something nice for her when she comes to visit me in a month. Once i got her an e-card instead of a real card... that didn't go so well.

My girlfriend has made me well aware that Valentine's Day is here favourite holiday of the year. So needless to say, I either go all out or don't get any for a looong time.

You should call her on that bluff. If she doesnt' put out, yes, thats a punishment to you, but its also a punishment for her. There's no way she'll be able to hold out.

Thanks to a concentrated marketing effort, Valentine's Day has emerged in China, Japan and Korea as a day on which women, and less commonly men, give chocolate or flowers. It has become an obligation for many women to give chocolates to all male co-workers.

I thoroughly enjoy Valentine's Day because it really exposes the inner-selfishness of many women. There. I said it.
When there's a competition for which guy buys their woman the best flowers/chocolate, or men are judged on what they get or don't get... something is wrong. Many women don't even get anything for their men... and don't say sex is the gift men get... cause then you're lowering VDay to organized prostitution.
Valentines day should be about both parties expressing their affection in some way. Why does it have to be monetary, and why does it have to be exactly Feb 14th. Fortunately, my girlfriend hates Valentines Day almost as much as I do... but cause she's a woman, I am fully aware what she says and what she thinks aren't 100% aligned, so I do little things before and after the 14th.

My GF and I decided that VDay is junk and doesn't really symbolize anything other than the start of the retailers' year after the post-Christmas slump.
We decided to make the day we met our VDay and we do something special then.
Tonight, we're just hanging out, having a nice dinner at home and probably a movie and stuff.

seriously, i hate that kind of crap too. He should call her on it, and if she insists, just watch porn when she's around.

My wife pulled the whole "you don't have to get me anything" routine, but seeing as how she popped out my present 2 weeks ago (a healthy son), the least I could do was buy her flowers and a card.
I gave them to her last night, which was met with a "I didn't get you anything". I thought that was funny.
