The thing that I don't get is why this went to Congress. Sorry I haven't been following it closely at all nor have I read all of the posts in this thread.

But the first question that comes to mind is "Don't they have something better to worry about other than a baseball player taking steriods?"

Wow. The republicans and democrats couldnt be more divided on this.

Brutal.

I believe Roger is guilty and he is looking like a fool for standing behind his weak statements, however this whole act should not be a govt. matter.

How much money is being wasted with these hearings. Any estimates as to how much salary is being spent during this charade? Is this a valuable use of time/money.

And that is a valid concern.
But baseball has an anti-trust exemption that allows them to conduct business the way they want, and that is a federal jurisdiction.

And it is an election year. Baseball and steroids are front page news. What politician doesn't want to make the front pages for trying to "save" America's pastime.

Clemens comes across as the most conceited, self-promoted prick I've ever seen. It's simply annoying as hell. Earlier in the hearing he was stumbling over every word he said. After the break he's come back with confidence after a pep talk with his lawyers I'd think. These congressman are flipping idiots too crediting him for this and that and beating around the bush with their 5 minutes to grill him. Simply frustrating to watch. As for McNamee, he comes across as a real dope (no pun intended), but his face kinda makes me laugh when they grill him - he clearly has little motive and is forthcoming about what happened and his own involvement, but they still grill him over his motives. Roger "my body is a temple" Clemens only speaks confidently when they ask him about his body form and how he's taken care of it over the years - what a prick.

I had it PVRing but I only set it for an hour, not thinking it would take hours like it apparently did.

I loved watching Clemens look like a foul for the first hour, I heard it gets alot better!

I agree, I understand why this goes to congress from an anti trust perspective, and also if anyone felt that they wanted to raise the issue of these athletes taking drugs and having them either talk about negative health concerns and let them out to try a bit in the public a little bit. However what Congress does to grandstand is just appauling and makes them out to be worse people than McGwire, Raffy and Clemens combined.

Still doesn't justify it. Any American with half a brain should see straight through any political spin they put on this.

The country is at war, the economy is almost in a recession, and Congress is wasting tax money on a baseball player who did "nothing wrong" in the grand scheme of things.

Sure there is something good to come out of this. It will send a good message to the American youth that drugs are not good, but this is a big price to pay.

Sad day in America if you ask me.

When HGH and Steriod use is increasing amoung highschool atheletes, then no, the price is not significant.

I believe Rome quoted a figure that 1 million HS students were using some type of performance enhancing drug. Staggering and tragic figure. Something which needs to be stopped. Now.

If this is the case, why are pro sports being targeted instead of the educational system, seems to me that would be the better area to focus on, dont you?

Not at all. The kind of education these kids are getting from these guys is HGH/Steriods = makes you better = makes you tons of money.

Never underestimate the power of role models, or better yet assume they are doing nothing at the grass roots level. You can tell kids the risk, but when they see the guys on top using and doing, and making the money, kids will ignore the risk - because it's worth it.
