I realize that some people like to race cars (legally), but you should have to get a special license to remove the speed cieling on high performance vehicles.
The new Nissan GTR has a GPS speed limiter in Japan. The car recognizes when you are at a race track and removes the speed limiter... pretty cool.

Personally, I think 50 over for a speed limiter would be reasonable. That's the magic number where regular tickets turn into court dates. Also, when passing on single lane roads, I like to be in the oncoming lane as little as possilble.

Holy crap, he posted this a few hours before the crash...

M5froth I completley understand where you are coming from assuming that I am irresponsible..that is definetly understandable. I do sometimes make bad decisions but I am young and I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others..and I hope you are not under the impression that I am the one to brag, I have never been that way and never will.

That is pretty mental. What a moron.

Speaking of posters who have disappeared, what happened to The President?
I suppose I am way behind on whatever happened, his profile seems to be gone too.

I think he's over on HF posting under the user name The Prez or something like that. I've noticed a guy by that name when I'm slumming over there whose posts sound about the same as The President's, except the guy over there slags the Flames and loves the Coilers. If it's the same guy I guess we hurt his feelings.

Kids (as a general rule) are dumb. You shouldn't give them 500 horses to play with as a toy.

While I tend to agree with those that say he was too young for a car like this, a few things bother me about that line of reasoning:

He was old enough to vote.
He was old enough to go to war.

Me neither, really, but it is a big deal and an ego thing. This car is not exactly a sports car...

but it can go 185 miles per hour. Crazy. But that V10 engine is what sold the car. You can buy any old sedan for a fraction of the price of one of these things, but they won't keep up with a Ferrari, and even though most people know they'll never come close to topping out their car, they do like to know that it's possible. And they like their friends and everyone they drive past to know it's possible too.

Now I realize that didn't answer your question at all. Or maybe it did? North Americans want to have the ability to drive as fast as hell even though they don't do it. That's why, I guess, they are built that way. And the whole "car culture/freedom" thing too I guess, but that's too complicated for me.

Again - kids are dumb. Which is why they go to war in droves, and don't tend to vote.

Yeah. Parents can do the best they can but some things are just bad luck and out of their hands.

Yes, but he wasn't old enough to drink.

IMO, unless you're old enough to get legally drunk, you have no business driving.

Whereas, IMO, marrying the time you can drink and the time you can drive is a really, REALLY bad idea.

I now have forwarded it to all my friend's little bros who are into that who "street racing" thing. Even if it makes one of them slow down its worth it!

Oh, I think this guy's father had a fair bit of control that he elected not to use when it came to his 18 year old son. Make no bones about it - these people are dead because of a couple of very stupid people. The 18 year old moron who took too much car onto a runway, and the even dumber adult who put the keys into his hands. May as well have handed the boy a gun.

Lots of control - no good sense.

I was talking more about the passengers who thought it was cool to be in such a nice car. What do they know, they're kids. You never think it'll happen to YOU. I'm sure we've all done idiotic things in our young lives and now sit back and wonder how the heck we survived it. There are alot dumb dad's who give their 18 year old moron sons nice cars and they don't all get into accidents. When it's your time, you gotta go. When it's not then count your blessings.

Pretty big difference between a 500 HP, "world's fastest production Sedan" and your standard run of the mill luxary car, like an Audi, lower model BMW or Benz.

Most of the parents you're thinking of don't give their kids that kind of car.

He lives in Florida and from the picture I saw with that hair he was obvisiously Jewish

Its a tragedy but still tommorrow there will be another spoiled brat who talks his parents into getting him a $75K+ car that can go 300MPH.

Just a comment: I think there was more sympathy for Heatly who survived something similar (4 less dead), who was older, bought the car himself and was doing it on a public road.
