Well, shoestring hasn't been around and I have his contact info and haven't been able to get ahold of him... I think he's no longer with us. Or ignoring me, which is rude. I miss him.

Yeah, I also knew a guy on the same forum I was talking about earlier that was killed in Iraq. He was a part of the 82nd Airborne in the US Army.

Kind of weird. You don't know the people personally, but you certainly feel emotion when you learn of their death. You can build strong relationships over the internet without ever having met the person.

Whoever posted about the gaming guy who disappeared from the forum, AIM etc. I was thinking about asking if anyone has disappeared on CP and ended up having died, or something. It seemed a pretty morbid question - but you brought it up

So I'm asking now.

Anything happen around here like that?
I've been curious about Frank The Tank ... he hasn't been around for a few months. Does anybody know what he's up to? I miss his posts.

And as much as we try our best as parents to prevent circumstances like this from happening by giving our children tanks to drive instead of speed cars, it also comes down to hoping our children have attained enough maturity to not be a passenger with someone who does have a race car.

This tragedy involved not only the driver but also passengers.

Unless his murderer has assumed his identity. Which is what I'd have done if I'd killed him.

That's good ... I hope he starts posting again. The last I'd checked he hadn't been on since October or November.

This reminds me of those idiots racing their Ferarris on single lane highways just south of Calgary, which made big news about 6 months ago.

Too much wealth in this city + generous parents = idiots driving cars they can't handle.

I see it all the time on Bow Trail with hotshots coming down from Springbank / Coach Hill.

I wish canada would implement a driving course like what is europe or germany. Over here, driving is seen as a right, and not a privilege. Where in Germany, the amount of time and cost it takes to get your license, makes you not want to piss it away.
I love driving in germany when I was there. 220km/h on the autobahn, and i didn't feel as though my life was in danger once. Plus the strict rules the germans place on driving.
Left lane is the fast lane, no passing on the right. If you break any of these rules and are caught, you will loose your hard earned license.

Do something like that over in North America, and it will dramatically reduce the idiots on the road. We need to stop coddling to the lowest common denominator.

Privatized driving instruction has put any idiot behind a wheel, it's just a matter of having the right connections.

One of the more popular members of baseballboards.net back in the day was a 9/11 victim. His wife posted on the boards a few days later to let us know why he suddenly stopped posting. His last message on that forum was, iirc, about 15 minutes before the first plane hit.

You forgot to mention accidents on the Autobahn leave wreckage trails 1-2 km's long.

I'm scared for when Race City closes down in 2 years if there is no replacement. There are a lot of people who love speed, but are responsible enough to head to the track. Take their track away, and are they really never going to take the cars they've put a lot of time and money into for a rip?

Wrong. The only qualification you need to drive a 500hp RWD car at break neck speeds is being able to afford it.

I never understood why cars sold to the North American market are designed to go so fast. It's not legal on any public roads to go as fast as they are designed to go. I can understand 20 or 30 km over the maximum speed limit in cases of emergency.

I realize that some people like to race cars (legally), but you should have to get a special license to remove the speed cieling on high performance vehicles.

The first car i ever drove was a Dodge Superbee with a 383 magnium engine. It's not always a disaster either in the hands of a 18 year old. In fact i'm still here posting

They didn't buy it for it. The car was registered under his dad's name. So in all probability, it was his dad's car that he had taken out joyriding.
