So, if I'm reading this right, the guy doesn't go down to the individual level for SAT scores, but just to the school average. This means that the likes of the smart people of the world who don't/didn't go to college aren't represented, nor are the people who aren't smart enough to go.

That makes for fairly skewed data. Not really that helpful.

The only people it accounts for are people who currently go to one of those specific colleges and have accurately and truthfully filled out their facebook profile. So this accounts for pretty much nobody.

Still interesting but not particularly helpful.

I am honestly happy that I don't know who little Wayne is. Little Johns brother?

The highest rated book I've read is Freakanomics and my lowest is Fight Club.

The highest rated band that I listen to is Led Zeppelin and the lowest is The Doors.

Although this is somewhat interesting, in the realm of actual science it's pretty well worthless. But at least the author pointed that out.

Correlation does not equal causation, but with that much data, you may infer relationships between the variables. The most damning thing I find from that "analysis", is the general disinterest in the great books and music. The dumbing down of our society needs to turn around at some point. That or I'll have to learn Chinese(or possibly Indian) soon.

LOL.

I like all genres of music. I can listen to anything and enjoy it. Which means I probably have no taste whatsoever. But it works great for me! Not so good for people riding in the car with me... but great for me!

Obviously it's a very skewed study, but not entirely useless. Would it be safe to say that universities with a very high african american population have lower test scores? I would infer that from the low rankings for both african american literature and hip hop music. But if that's the case, it's interesting that while african american literature is universally low, hip hop music has some scores moving toward the middle of the graph; reflective, of course, of how music is much more able to cross cultural and social boundaries than literature.

Sci-fi/fantasy did much better than I thought it would.
Distopian did much worse than I expected (though really, shouldn't Brave New World be included in Distopian rather than Sci-fi?).
I'm not sure if the results of erotica being the worst genre are surprising or not. Probably not.
It's interesting that the two highest-ranked books deal with pedophilia and incest. I'm guessing that has more to do with the policies of institutions: both are excellent books, but have subject matter that probably keeps them off the ciriculum and even out of the libraries in some cases. A test-score focused institution is likely to promote these books on the grounds of their superior writing.
Also interesting if somewhat inexplicable that the bible and the holy bible have such widely different scores.
