Default How much would it cost to put a dome with a retractable roof...

Over Calgary. It's brutal out there right now, wind whipping around with snow and cold. We could be in for a rough day. But honestly how much would it cost?

A trillion...

You know what's cheaper? Move. Once you get out, you realize how bad it is.

Didn't the Rhinocerous Party have this as part of their campaign platform?

They'd get my vote today.

Wasn't it something like putting a roof over trans-canada highway?

That and moving the mountains closer to Saskatchewan or something

Now that I think about it, I think it was a dome over Fish Creek Park. But technology has improved since then so the City should be do-able now.

I also liked their idea of an LRT extension to Mexico...

I think we can get the Skydome for pretty cheap. We just have to move it here from Toronto.

How much did it cost them to do it over springfield?

That one wasn't retractible.

And if you put a dome over the city without a proper airflow system would we all die of mass exposure to methane?

With the retractable roof we can open it on nice days. I would assume we'd have it open about 50-60 days per year.

I just came back from a coffee run, and I am pretty sure my ear is going to fall off. How many ears do we need to lose before the government acts on this?!!?!

Rhino Party lives!!!!

Quote:
Election Platform 2008
We promise to keep none of our promises.

We also promise to:

• if elected, we will immediately dissolve the government and call another election
• get drunk and throw money at all of our problems, not just at homeless people.
make gay marriage mandatory
• annex Saskatchewan, in order to provide “living space” for Albertans and make housing cheaper.
• push British Columbia into the sea, creating new oceanfront property in Alberta.
• repeal the law of gravity
• reduce the speed of light
• provide higher education by building higher schools
• legalize pot. And pans. And spatulas. And other kitchen utensils
• make all sidewalks out of rubber to prevent inebriated people from hurting themselves when they fall down
• abolish pumping oil out of the ground. Oil is there to keep the Earth moving smoothly on its axis and if you withdraw the oil, the whole thing will grind to a halt
• abolish the environment because it’s too hard to keep clean and it takes up so much space
• end crime by abolishing all laws
• adopt the British system of driving on the left; this will be gradually phased in over five years with large trucks and tractors first, then buses, eventually including small cars and bicycles last
• make Albertans stronger by putting steroids in the water
• ban lousy Alberta winters, Albertans are sick of being God’s frozen people. It’s time to get back to the four basic seasons: salt, pepper, mustard, and vinegar.
• build giant domes over certain neighborhoods in order to keep the dinosaurs in, for example in Calgary West
• include the word “fun” in Acts of Provincial Legislatures, and Bylaws of municipalities
• use the greenhouses in Redcliff to grow cannabis
• rename the province “The People’s Republic of North Montana”, declare Medicine Hat the capital, because it has a silly name.
• merge with the Progressive Conservative party we don’t split the silly vote

That can be fixed by replacing fluoride in the water with Beano. It also solves our CO2 emissions challenge.

It would be great if all the weather wussies would leave town. It'd be a lot less crowded here.

That's a great idea!!!!!

I would propose a high-speed retractable roof that is composed of 4 distinct segments that can independently open\close in just under 6 minutes. Very plausible, I think....

The city itself covers almost 800 square kilometres, so segments of roughly 200 square kilometres each, spanning the NW, NE, SE and SW, should do the trick.

Off the top of my head here, I'm thinking the city should budget just northward of 800 billion per segment -- bringing the entire job to somewhere around $3.5 trillion. That's certainly palatable, if not affordable. And it should only take 60-70 years to complete.

So yeah, all around, very awesome.
