Seriously, how could they trade him? He's owed like 20 mil this season and next ... and Phoenix has Stoudemire ...

Marion and Banks... ESPN is reporting that's the trade rumor. Mainly because Marion is a punk in the locker room and shoots like a girl.
But Shaq is slow...

No way the Phoenix owner is taking on Shaq for 2 more years and $40 million for maybe 50 games a season

Well I think it's more aimed to get rid of Marion. He's a cancer and demands big money himself.

Wow! If Shaq stay healthy, could this mean an NBA championship in the near future?

Phoenix won't win with Shaq. This is totally a knee-jerk reaction to the Lakers' move to acquire Pau. Realizing that their (Lakers') front line would be Bynum, Pau and Lamar they didn't match up well with Amare, Diaw and Marion. I still don't think they improved that much.
San Antonio is still the team to beat in the West, in spite of their record. And even Dallas could beat LA in a 7-game series.

I love the trade even though the health issue make it extremely risky. Shaq playing the 5 allows Amare Stoudamire to slide down to his natural position at the 4 which will allow him to be more effective against smaller opponents and will keep him out of foul trouble. With those two in the post, teams will have no choice but to double down on them which leaves open players (Nash,Diaw,Hill,Bell,Barbosa) to hit open jumpers. Rebounding will be huge for them and Shaq brings the championship swagger the team is lacking.
Plus his contract comes off the books the same time as Nash and Bell so they set themselves up as a franchise to take their championship runs and then rebuild with younger FA's and go in a different direction after that.
Good move for the Suns, GREAT move for the Heat. They'll have no trouble finding their way back to the playoffs next season with Wade,Marion and the high pick they'll have in the upcoming draft.

Wow ... guess I have to eat my words. That's incredible, I thought the Heat were stuck with him.

This deal makes sense for both teams so I can easily see the logic. Heat get out from under the contract, younger and faster.
Suns address their Achilles heel which is their defense.
When there is a chance to win the big one then you go for it!!!!

Shaq is smart enough player to adjust to any type of system/offence in the league. However, I don't believe he's going to able to strive in this run-and-gun offense that the Suns rely on so much. He's now 35 and his injuries coupled with his size have really slowed him down. What made Marion work on the Suns was his quickness and freakish, athleticism. This isn't to say Shaq won't be able to work his way into the team, I just don't think he fits that mould of; Barbosa, Hill (just returning to the line-up), Diaw, Amare and most importantly, Nash.
Other teams are no longer concerned with double-teaming Shaq. And he won't be a concern running up-court. The Suns are not as an effective of a team with the half-court - Transition is where they win games.
I don't know if it's such a good move for the Heat on-court, either. I see this more as a 70% managerial move, 30% team move. He was obviously hurting the room, but not necessarily the court. (I mean, they are still in first place!) Without a true point guard, Marion can't get the ball. Think K-Mart without Jason Kidd.
Again, this is a reaction from Pau going to the Lakers. It scared Dallas and Phoenix because he makes the Lakers even more of threat than they already were. The Lakers have Phoenix's number, Phoenix needed to do something.

I can see it now:
*Nash Pushes it up the floor*
*Looks around*
*Waits*
*Waits*
.
.
*Keeps waiting for Shaq to run the floor*
*Passes it to Shaq for the Trailer 3*
Somehow I don't see him really working well with that offense.

What some are failing to take into the equation is this is a playoff move. Teams in the playoffs have forced the Suns to play half court offense. Those same teams have taken advantage of a small lineup defensively.
Shaq helps them both ways. Nash will have no trouble using Shaq as a threat inside and off the pick and roll. They can still go small and run the ball and now can go more effectively inside as well.
The playoffs are a different ballgame altogether and this is a solid move by a team that has struggled when teams ramp up the defense.

Sun don't run a 5 fast break anyways, only a 4. Shaq can inbound and woddle up the court all he wants and it won't effect anything, as long as Diaw decides to play

Shaq passed his physical and the deal has officially been completed. Shaq is officially a member of the Phoenix Suns. Marion/Banks are officially members of the Heat.

Shaq to Nash: " I will not let you down."
I'm pretty stoked about this. We finally have a big man in the low post and now Amare can go back to his natural position. Not to mention we've gotten Marion out of the dressing room.
All positives imo!

I'm SOOO glad the Marion for Kirilenko rumour didn't ever end up happening..
As for Shaq, we'll see if he'll be enough to get the Suns past Tim Duncan.

Trading Shawn Marion was imminent. I just don't know if acquiring Shaq is the answer for this team. I just wonder who else's door Steve Kerr went knocking on before Miami. Regardless, with his age, declined production and injuries, Shaq still commands a lot of presence in the key and will alleviate pressure off of Amare who is the primary go-to guy now for Nash. I do agree with JohnnyFlame that it is a playoff move, but the Big Fella can only hold up as far as his knees and back are concerned. It's not the early 2000s where he could walk in and terrorize Deke, Brad Miller and Shawn Bradley.
For Phoenix's (and obiously, Shaq's sake), I hope he can hold it down and I mean, I still like him - Easily the most charismatic player from this era.
