Combine that with the fact that when Jack gets out of his Jeep he is in a predominantly black neighbourhood; and the only other black person still alive on the island is Rose- and we saw in her flashback that she is from somewhere cold. (She met Bernard when he helped push her car in a snow storm.) Judging by Jack he is obviously still in California.

I can't think it's Michael, because if you're logic is right that they're in California, from the flashbacks Michael is from New York.

Could it be John Locke? He had nobody in his life after his fiance dumped him.

My guess it's either Locke or Sawyer or even Ben(Sp?)

I am going to go on a limb here with a new theory.

Everyone seems to think the Flash Forwards are from the end of the story. I am guessing that the flash forwards will be the end of Season 4 (possibly season 5), setting up 1 or 2 seasons of 'getting back to help them'....

Jack is in California. He told Kate that every weekend he flies from LA to Tokyo, or Singapore, Or Sydney hoping he will crash again.

Here's the other thing from Jack's flash forwards. Twice he makes mention of his father in the present tense. Once when he tells the cheif of physicians to "go upstairs and see if I am more drunk than my father." The other time in the pharmacy when he tries to use a prescription written by his father.

Now I understand that he may be forging his father's prescription pads, or that he may have forgotten that his father was dead, but it does strike me as a little odd that in the flash forward his father gets mentioned twice.

The part that really confuses me about Jack's flash forward and who's funeral he went to is the fact that when he shows future Kate the paper slip, she responds with "Why would I want to go to that funeral" or something like that.

It seems to me like this person would be something she is holding a lot of hostility towards, even after that long period of time. Micheal perhaps but I imagine that we will be seeing more of him in the near future. My long shot option would be Ben. There's no body that would show up to his funeral and Jack and him had a strange relationship......

Just like the show, so many questions, not enough answers.

My first inclination was that it was Ben's funeral.

I just re-watched the episode. I am pretty sure that the "lawyer" for Oceanic was referring to the ones left on the island when asking if they are still alive. This tells me that the outside world is not aware of any survivors remaining on the island.

I wish this season was out on DVD already, LOL. I cannot stand watching TV series' week to week.

The funeral may have been for Ben or Sawyer, those were my initial thoughts. Now I am throwing Locke into the mix too, as he has partially alientated himself from Jack and Kate.

I had initially thought that the funeral was for Ben, which would explain why Kate had such antipathy for whoever was in the box and also why no one else showed up for the service.

I've rented the last three seasons on DVD because I like to watch it all at once, but did watch the season opener. I have this really bad feeling that they will not be able to explain the island, inhabitants and the experiences there in any logical manner. But it hasd been a good ride so far. I'd have to go with Ben in that coffin. One neat thing from last year's finale, someone pointed out that if you rearranged the funeral home's letters, it spelled flash forward.

I don't think it was Michael in the coffin but we will be seeing Michael this season - probably regularly. I noticed the name of the actor who plays Michael in the opening credits of S04E01.

So that would be channel 219 on Bell; not sure what the channel number is for Star Choice.
