Default Quarter of Brits think Churchill was myth

So what do we make of this? Is this TV skewing reality? Poor education? Has the whole country been fotzed?

Britons are losing their grip on reality, according to a poll out Monday which showed that nearly a quarter think Winston Churchill was a myth while the majority reckon Sherlock Holmes was real.

I dunno Sherlock!

It just shows that we're getting dumber as a society and that the movie Idiocracy is a realistic look at what's to come

As our society gets dumber we're easier to be led around by our noses as shown by our support for invading Iraq. In a 100 years Fox News and it's ilk will be our guardians of history and Sherlock will be the greatest man in the 19th century. Hulk Hogan for the 20th and George W for the 21st.

Lawyer: Mr Griffin, which of the following two phrases best describes Brian Griffin: Problem Drinker or African-American Haberdasher?
Peter: Uh, do I-I guess problem drinker, but that's uh-
Lawyer: Thank-you. Now: Sexual deviant or magic picture that if you stare at it long enough, you see something?
Peter: Well, sexual deviant, but that other one's not even, eh-
Lawyer: Thank-you.

I'm thinking the survey went something like this...

That's really shoddy reporting.

What the article in the OP doesn't say (but this one does) is that the survey only questioned Britons under 20. That could mean a 19-year old university student who should know better, but it could also mean a 12-year old primary school student who probably hasn't learned much history yet.

What the survey says is that 77% of Britons under the age of 20 know who Winston Churchill is.

I wonder if 77% of Canadians under the age of 20 know who John A. MacDonald was.

Sounds about right.....like it or not, Canadians are just as dumb as the rest of society.

Personally, I've always thought individuals should be required to pass a history/civics test before being given the privelage to vote.

One of the greatest men to ever walk the face of the earth, there should be monuments to that greatness on every corner of the British Isle.

Everyone should strive to be more like Winston Churchill, and less like Neville Chamberlin.

Sometimes I think that the best day in my life will be when I'm sitting on a hill as I watch mushroom clouds bursting over the major cities of the world.

I'm beginning to think that the human race is too stupid to survive.
