23.5, though I think it reads a bit high. I don't put it down during the night, our house is big so I don't think that going down for a short time and then bringing it back up will actually save any energy. Plus we've got 2 furnaces so neither have to work very hard.

I run at 18 almost all the time, although when it's cold out I drop the temperature to 15 when I'm away. If I'm cold I usually just turn on the fireplace rather then heat up the entire house.

Run it at 20 when we're home and 18 when we're away/night.

I have that plastic stuff on several of the windows and seems to make a difference. My main problem is that my insulation has settled a fair bit in the walls. Got to have more insulation blow in the walls down from the attic or just have the siding redone with all new insulation.

I bought a weather station from crappy tire. I monitors the outdoor and indoor temps plus humidity. I was surprised that the thermostat temp is pretty accurate. We also have one in our kids room and our room. The kids room is on the west of the house and has huge windows. it averages 3-4 degrees colder in winter and up to 10-15 hotte in summer. We had the window films put on the windows on the west side and it dropped the temps in the house by about 7 degrees. About $500. Cracked a window though.

Are these fairly easy to install? Or did you have someone do it for you?

Fairly easy to do. If you understand basic electronics (ie wired in a light switch or a wall receptacle), you should be fine.

it depends on your furnace, if you have a two stage, best to get someone in, because its a different type of thermostat.

if not, there will be, like 3 wires, and you just have to wire em in. very very easy. make sure the furnace power breaker is off though

My place is the same. I have two temperatures, either hot or freezing. In the winter it's at hot, in the summer at freezing. Kinda sucks actually. My fish doesn't like it too much.

18 degrees day and night.

Heat is for the weak. You just need to get your metabolism up by shivering for a few years and it's all good after that!

PS - FAHRENHEIT!!!!

I dunno...the upstairs people have the thermostat. All I know is it's definitely not set very high! (Yet somehow our utilities still seem to be huge)

Geez, some people must be tolerant of the cold than I am. I like to be able to walk around indoors with a t-shirt and feel comfortable. I have mine set at 21C. Of course, I live in a very well insulated condo so even at 21, the heat rarely comes on.

Our's is set at 21 usually (though during the cold snap, it got turned up to 22 or 22.5 cause I was ALWAYS cold!) during the day, and 18 at night. We used to go down to 16 at night, but our 4yr old's bedroom is the coldest in the house in the winter, and he is forever kicking off his blankets, and we don't want the poor kid to freeze!

I agree on the programmable thermostat. SO worth it !!

I have slab heating and keep it at 22 so the baby stays warm as her room seems to lose more heat in extreme cold, then open our window in our room if we get to hot.

20 during the day, 17 after 9pm. I'd have it lower but I've compromised with my wife who always seems to be freezing.

What are these magical numbers you speak of?

20-21C during the winter. 17-18 during the summer, weather depending.

I can't stand places who set their temperature too high (22+). I'd rather be able to control my temperature using clothing then to be bathed in oppressive heat.

17-19 when home, 15 at night / away.

We have a space heater with a thermostat to keep our bedroom around 18-19, it comes on and off during the night if it's drops below a certain temp. This way we are only heating our room instead of the entire house.

Our's is at 23 but the thermostat is mounted close to one of the heat duct so the house is actually closer to 21.

Our bedroom was 16.5 the other morning.

We have a programable thermostat but it stays at 23 all the time, if we didn't we'd likely face 14 on those cold winter mornings.
