If Lupe Fiasco can keep it up, he'll be looked at as an Hip-Hop/Rap artist that had a style that reflected true rap in a time of unoriginal, mainstream songs made by artists just looking for that one hit.

Dallas Green, IMO, will be a future Canadian music legend.
I stress Canadian though.

Amy Winehouse because she's gonna die soon, my guess after her next album, and it'll be another story of a amazing singer dying before they're time.

Depending on defintion of legend. Beatles, Elvis are legends, but do we put Led, Stones and other like that in the same category?? In terms of legendary status, Beatles and Elvis are in a class of their own, the other pack is right behind them.
To answer your question then, no one will today will ever be put in the Elvis, Beatles class. I think Nirvana would have been the only ones that might have come close, but we all know what happened there.
Artists that might be in the legend class just below E and the B's are the Chilis and U2.

Nobody today will be a legend tomorrow, that's just the sad state of the music industry.

I am actually going to go out on a limb and pick a kid I saw about 8 years ago on his first night live. He was the lead singer of a band called Recipe From a Small Planet, named Jay Crocker or it looks like Jason Crocker now on google. I was just there to drink but he was unbelieveable and only 18ish (I imagine that is what his age was). I am dissapointed to see he is still in Calgary, because I think he needs to leave her to become something.
I still remember Leslie Feist screaming at the top of her lungs with Placebo in Calgary, he has to get the hell out of Calgary, just like she did.
Interesting, I found his site too...

Good call, I remember Recipe for a Small Planet. Still have one of their CDs kicking around somewhere; musically great and very good performers. Looking at his bio now, I'm reminded a little bit of Tomko Lamb, who was great when he was with Difference Engine, and then set out to find himself musically, and spent a lot of time busking with his hammered dulcimer. And as much as his dulcimer stuff is nice, it doesn't seem like he'll become what he could have if he had chosen a different direction.

Radiohead will be considered just as classic as any band from 60s-70s. They are already getting best album nods ahead of those bands for OK Computer. Their cultural influence only seems to grow. Wilco will be close although they've fallen off lately. Modest Mouse, perhaps, has a chance. Red Hot Chili Peppers have a few songs that will be classic for a long, long time. Sufjan Stevens will be considered classic in time as well.

What I took from the thread title is bands that will be considered timeless classics in the vein of The Beatles and Led Zep. Basically, what bands will have lasting cultural influence.

I don't really see legends being made anymore, though I don't think that necessarily says anything bad about today's state of music. The thing that made Zep, Beatles, Elvis, etc the legends that they are, is that they brought something revolutionary to the table that was unheard of before. I think Nirvana was the last band closest to achieving this.
Having said thatI don't know if i want to hear the next new evolution in music; we might end up listening to what Kubrick envisioned in Clockwork Orange or something:P

Derek Trucks will be legendary for sure.... maybe not crossover well in the mainstream but thats not a bad thing if you ask me.
He's simple amazing and those that have tuned their ear to him have been treated to a gift. He already has the respect and admiration of his peers and he's hasn't even got started, 10-15 years from now he'll be carrying a huge weight on his shoulders and he'll be doing it well

There isnt one group today that will go down as legendary...not one of the groups listed above are remotely close. The music industry has been in a funk for years....I think that might have something to do with the Hip Hop/Rap era that panders to gangstas and ass wranglers.

Yup, and this 10 to 20 years of music will be like the forgotten generation.
