I don't mind Shia. I, occasionally, get a little sick of his schtick though. Small doses, I guess.

Maybe it was just because of the movie then. Transformers was horrible beyond belief.
They should put Shia and that Mac guy in the same movie and just ask the audience to shoot themselves in the head. hehe.

Only thing I know him from is Transformers, and I wasn't a fan. Decent enough acting job, but to me his role seemed out of place. He didnt strike me as the geeky guy he was supposed to be playing.

I enjoyed Transformers too, actually. I didn't think I would, but it was entertaining.

Wow... just goes to show different strokes for different folks... I thought Transformers was the most disappointing movie since The Matrix 3.

What was not to like?? Great effects, great action, mediocre story..It had robots turning into cars and vice versa, how can you not like it...for christ's sakes people. it was based on a set of toys, what were you expecting??
I didn't go see it for artistic merit, acting or even to see if it was true to the original storylines. I was there to see effects, explosions, action and to leave my brain at the door. This movie was so much fun, but that seems to be lost on some people.

Great story and great action don't have to be mutually exclusive. That's what made the original Matrix so compelling and its sequels so disappointing.

I agree with the Matrix sequels sucking ass because of the story, but you can't tell me the first time you saw the chase scene in Matrix 2, you weren't blown away. That was bloody awesome.

The special effects were impressive, no doubt. But my point was that special effects alone are not enough for me to enjoy the movie. If a movie has a bad storyline, I won't enjoy it regardless of how many special effects are in it. Earlier, you said something about "checking your brain at the door". Personally, that's something I can't do. If you can, that's great because you won't experience as much disappointment as I do at the cinema.
But generally I can tell in advance what type of movies are willing to trade special effects for plot or acting and I'll avoid those. To each his own.

Meh, I was disappointed. Maybe it depends what you're expectations were going in. Mine were absolutely through the roof. I dont know what it was about this movie, but the moment it was first announced to come out, I was absolutely pumped. I grew up watching Transformers, and I was so excited to see what they'd do with them on the big screen. I remember sending everyone the announcement via email, then later sending everyone the trailer when it was released(and I'm seriously not like that. VERY rarely does a movie get me that pumped). I'd go to Youtube to search for clips people had secretly taped of the set during production. And I was at the theatres on opening night, over 2 hours before it opened. Then I finally saw it and...I was disappointed.
The robots looked great, but I didnt find it to be an overly fun movie. Obviously I expected(and wanted) some comic relief, considering its a movie based on children's toys from the 80's. But IMO there was waaaaay too much comic relief, to the point where I think that movie could almost be classified as a comedy. I didnt like it for that, way too cheesy, more than it couldve been, even considering what it was about. I was hoping for Jurassic Park with robots: a bit of the cheese factor with some comic relief like Jurassic Park had, but still kept you on the edge of your seat and was a little scary too. I wanted to be in awe of the robots, not constantly laughing with them. But to each their own. I know it was a huge hit for alot of people so thats cool. Just not my type of movie I guess.

Something better than mediocrity? Special effects don't make a movie good. Decent acting and a good storyline make a movie good, something Transformers lacked. If all you wanted was a juvenile, poorly laid out story with a lot of cool sound and visual effects... Transformers was a sweet movie! I guess I just see enough movies that I expect more effort put into the plot/storyline... a lot of movies these days seem to be 'great' based on effects alone. Boring.

They've been really patient about rolling out the marketing campaign for this new Indiana Jones flick, haven't they? I think I got a peek at the poster via some online link but other than that, when is this puppy going to kick into full gear? The movie comes out in a couple of months. I'm quite surprised.
PS I really liked Transformers. It was a big, loud, dumb, product-heavy summer action flick, it did it well, and it didn't pretend to be anything but. Nothing wrong with those kinds of movies, especially in the summer.

I didn't see Defiance mentioned anywhere in your list. I'm looking forward to it. Here's the trailer.

I added it to the unscheduled 2008 releases. It doesn't seem to have a firm release date.

Something better than garbage. Lots of movies can have both great effects and a solid storyline with good acting. Transformers had one of those three... hard to like something just for flashy glitz and nostalgia.
