Huge Police Operation Takes Spears From Home To Hospital

	Quote:

		| LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A police motorcade the length of a football field escorted troubled pop star Britney Spears to a Los Angeles hospital early Thursday to get her some help, a law-enforcement official told CNN.
This is the second hospital visit for Spears this month, coming after her psychologist called the police, according to the Los Angeles Times.

She was removed from her home for a "mental evaluation hold," according to the L.A. Times.

Things just keep getting worse for Britney...

I'm not really a fan of hers, so ordinarily I'd have no sympathy, but it sounds like she's a very sick girl. I've had some family experience with mental illness, so I know it's no picnic. Hopefully she can get the help she needs and we can go back to making fun of her. In the meantime, I hope (probably in vain) that she can get some privacy.

I don't really understand how police can forcibly take someone from their home and insert them to a hospital for treatment without someones permission.

Spears' psychiatrist authorized her mental health hold, I believe.

I'd rather make fun of her for her music then anything else. But I do feel sorry for him in a big way. Its apparent that she's really spiralling now, and I always wonder if its the death spiral that we've seen so often.
Probably the best thing for her would be to change her name, get out of the limelight and disown her family.

This isn't a case where she can pay her way out.

If it works the same way as in alberta, the alberta mental health act states that you can be detained for a period of up to 72 hours with 2 physicians (MH nurse and a doctor usually) who declare you to be a threat to yourself or others. You have no idea how many times a day this happens in calgary alone, I cant believe it took them so long for them to make her certified.

(Edit : A police officer also has the power to certify but the form only lasts 24 hrs, and must be renewed by a doctor)

I'm all for an intervention like this when somebody is so clearly suffering from some kind of severe mental disorder and won't seek treatment or even acknowledge they are suffering from said mental disorder to begin with.
Hopefully she gets help. Even though she's Britney, and we've all had a laugh at antics, and probably even staved off a few chuckles watching the "Leave Britney Alone," guy, she's still a human being and has the same rights to live and be healthy as the rest of us.

I recognize that exposure to the media and paparazzi are part of the celebrity game. Indeed that is the celebrity game... but you hate seeing a person self destruct like this, no matter who they are.

There are a lot of reports starting to surface that she is now a meth addict. Unfortunate but I have little sympathy for those who live in excess and then expect sympathy when their excess leads to rehab stints and meth addictions.
Even the hole head shaving incident is now being reported as removing traces of cocaine and meth before a court date.

What I don't get is how people know for a fact how extreme that stuff is, yet keep on doing it.

It's just addictive personalities and no positive attitude on life.

Has anyone else noticed that Britneys epic free fall into despair and madness has done something wonderful for our society: No more Paris Hilton stories. Paris at her best could not keep up with the 500mph cyclone of insanity that britney has been surrounded by for the last few months.
Could this be the beginning of the end of the 'how slutty can young women/girls look/act' era, only time will tell...

No. The police officer only has the power to bring you to the hospital. It's the doctors that have the ultimate authority to hand out admission certificates if he/she deems you a threat to yourselves or others.

			So Britney is crazy.
Why is this a big deal?

If we are going to have a whole thread dedicated to her, why are there no pictures?
