Memex has VGA coolers that will probably fit that 9000, it's a somewhat standard size.

Thanks Hack and Photon. I pulled the card and will take it to Memex after work. Thanks so much for all of your input.

Just as a bit of closure: I went to Memex and they did not have a fan that fit my, apparently, ancient video card. Their advice was to just disconnect the power to the fan. They said the card would just crap out way before it affected the rest of the computer as the card does not put out that much heat, particularly as I don't do any strenuous video stuff on my computer. Needless to say I did that and I now have blissful silence.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.

Had a very similar sound thing going on with my old computer. It was the power supply. Was cheap and easy to replace.

You could try and take the fan off the video card and throw some grease into where the bearings are located.

Surprised they recommended that to you. I guess it increases their chances of you coming back and buying a new card.

If I were you, I would get a slot cooler fan. Basically it fits in the slot underneath your video card and blows air onto it. Just like this one:

I was sure memoryexpress has these in stock.

If you are still worried about the health of the card, you can buy a passive heatsink and epoxy it on with some artic ceramique or perhaps it might come with a thermal pad.
