welll the last time a goverment/the law didnt take threats seriously, a few thousand people lost their lives...so post that event, no suprise at any "massive" overreaction.

A guy in my girlfriend's classes was expelled for diong just that a couple of years ago. I don't know if exams would have been the main motivation here, but that is probably what happened.

Really? The specter of 9/11 still looms large over the UBC campus? Or should we be more concerned with law enforcement getting into a tizzy over a bunch of lightbright boards promoting Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Yeah, you're right. Odds are it saves countless lives taking our shoes off in airports and not being allowed toothpaste on an airplane.
Leave the culture of fear to the Americans. It lets them justify their military spending.

Apparently "normal activities may resume at this time." Choppers are still doing circles and there's a crowd outside of the Bio Sci Building - reporters, students, etc...
Very little police presence. Looks like a hoax.

sure....
just in case you were out of the loop as to why things like this are taken more seriously....never said anything about right or wrong.
and i am sure you would be the first to be all over law enforcement if this was legit and they didnt take this seriously.

I think the incidents in montreal at Polytechnique have just as much to do w/ the police reaction as 9/11. Campuses are easy targets and student life is pretty stressful for a lot of people. Until all the facts are released i'm going to reserve judgment on the reaction of the police.

Or at Virginia Tech, University of Arizona, etc... it doesnt have to be an incident in Canada to effect police response/attitude towards threats.

I agree with you. I'm just saying that 9/11 and homeland security are not the main issue here.

Crazy...
I hope it is just an over reaction to something minor. I'm hoping not a shooting of some kind or real bomb threat.
edit: wrong forum can mods please move. sorry

Now, is this because the Curtis building is practically a bunker, or because everyone at UBC was basically thrown into lockdown?
And ask Wexler for a poem or two. Nothing passes the time like a good reading from him.
Well, except Socrates on Trial...

Although Curtis may contain the cement content necessary for a bunker, it would not stand up to a stiff breeze let alone a bomb. I have nothing against Wexler, but I got a lifetime's worth of Greek philosophy from him in my class last year.
Anyway, we've all been allowed to leave, but apparently the Bio-sciences building is still under lock down and they are not letting people out...
