Default Ducks re-acquire Regehr

Well the Ducks and Habs continue to swap NHL Flame or Canadien players. Today the Pens sent Robyn Regehr back to the Ducks. Ever since he left the Ducks regret the move but are very happy to get him back. With his recent NHL extension we are excited to have a player that will be a consistent shut down guy for years.

To the Ducks:
Robyn Regehr
Cash
Waiving of a 2nd round pick (no longer have to send a 2nd to the pens from a previous deal)

To the Pens:
Ryan Whitney

We understand that this is an overpayment but to get a Flame Dman signed for 5 years you have to give up something of significant value. Goff capitalized on this and got a young stud in Whitney who will only cost him 2 mill next year whereas Regehr is a RFA. All in all we paid a price to get someone we like, I'm sure other GMs will scrutinize this but Regehr is a Duck and he is here to stay. Should be a big leader next year when we make a push for the playoffs.

I like this deal for the Pens. Whitney is a very good young solid dman. Regehr is a good dman in his own right but I really am a fan of Whitney. Big win for Pittsburgh imo.

Again...wow! This one I'm gonna have to give to Goffie though and quite handedly. Whitney has #1 or possibly even Franchise potential. Regehr is one of the best defensive defenseman in the NHL but he's still not and never will be at Whitney's potential level. Personally, I think Ravi values Flames players too high, which is something I've tried not to do even though it's hard, but he's done well with his team thus far so you can afford to overpay on the odd deal to get the guys you want.

Well than why didn't Regehr stay a Duck when you had him a few weeks ago! Wouldn't that have just been better?

Definitely would have been better Chad, but it was a mistake and unfortunately it cost me a hefty price. I think Ryan hit this with the nail on the head.

Also, your comments about Byers scares me! When Chad says somethin about prospects you gotta listen!

You didn't read the last sentence.

It's a bit tough to see.

Regehr was not a player we wanted to trade. Especially given the fact that we are in the middle of a playoff race and he has played very well since being acquired. But in the words of the immortal Million Dollar man Ted Dibiase "Everybody's got a price". and the chance to land a defenseman of Whitney's potential was to much to turn down. At 24 years old and already having a 59 point NHL season behind him we felt we could be a better team long term with him on-board. With Komisarek already on our blueline it made Regehr's physical and shutdown abilities movable.

We wish Robyn all the best in Anaheim and hope that his stay there is longer this time.
