Bell 9242 receiver for two tvs ...

any experts out there?

Added a new TV this weekend and would like to run a line from my 9242 to a second tv. Is that possible first off?

I tried the RCA outs (rwy) and ended up with both tvs in HD at the same time but mirroring each other.

Is there a way to have one tv to tuner1 and the other to tuner2?

If it's the same as the 9200 you can run a coaxial to the second TV. But then you don't get HD.

the rwy cable did give HD to both ... but they mirrored

so you can't get the 2nd tuner exclusively? I had two opposite opinions from Bell

The way I understand this receiver is that you can run it in dual mode so you can watch different programming on each TV but the kicker is that the second TV will only be in SD. Haven't read up on how to activate it though.
If you're satisfied with the rwy [composite]cable picture, it should suit you fine.

the composite mirror (both tvs were side by side and if you changed the channel both switched to the same channel) appeared to have both tvs in HD. I'm not expert, but the mirrored tv (comp connected) didn't stretch nor did it go to black bars on HD channels.

Agree on the split tuner feature though ... no other way to export that 2nd tuner.

But am I wrong on the Comps? It looked like HD to me.

You can only have HD with one tuner and SD with the other.

Keeping that in mind- watching an HD channel via composite will still look dang good. Possibly good enough to look like HD at times.

There is a setting in the menu to clone the TV as opposed to operating with 2 tuners. I set one up this weekend, and it was a bugger to find in the menu. I just wish I had made note of what I had to set.

from my experience with my 9200, like stated above you run a coaxial cable from the receive to the second tv, and that second tv will be SD, and yeah ken is right, watching an HD channel on the tv with only the SD feed still looks hell of a lot better then watching a normal SD channel, only thing is the format, you can either have it zoomed in, or have it widescreen with the two black bars on top and bottom (on the 2nd tv that is)

I think the cloning thing is the "mirror" that I'm speaking of.

Is that HD on both TVs or SD that looks great? The screen didn't shrink with bars at least.

I ran the rwy out of the TUNER 2 slot you see in this picture and into any component input on the tv.


I'm thinking of fishing one of those up through the basement ceiling and into say video 1, plus having my only 6100 receiver into the HDMI slot giving me both options (the first to access the PVR)

That's a good idea to use your 6100 on your second TV and the 9242. Your best picture quality on this TV from your 9242 would be to run component [rbg] video and composite [r and w] for audio. This would give you the mirror effect but it would be in HD. The easiest would be to fish a co-axial cable, though that's not real HD.
One thing I've wanted to try is to use an HDMI splitter, so that I could run HDMI from one STB to two TVs. One HDMI cable would be easier to fish to the second TV than component and composite. You could even use component from your 9242 to your main TV and use the HDMI out to your second TV. I don't notice a difference in picture quality between HDMI and component.
If both TVs are widescreen and you've set the boxes for 16x9, you shouldn't get any black bars on HD broadcasts.

I just remembered in the setup I think you have, for your 6100 you won't get the HD satellite from your SW34. You'll have to use one of the outlets from your SW44 used for your SD PVR. Just replace it with a cable from your SW34 to your SD PVR. You shouldn't miss a coulple of channels on one tuner to this box.

OK ... help me out. RWY vs RGB ... I've always called the latter component and the former ???

secondly I don't think you can run RGB from the receiver to the second tv, the RGB exit point is within the TUNER1 section of the receiver. or does that matter?

RWY is composite. RGB is component.

It doesn't matter if you don't mind watching in mirror mode. I use it this way for two TVs.
You may have to use shared view. Using remote #1, Press menu, select system setup, then select shared view and done.

I was giving you the option of keeping your dual tuner SD box. If you want you can run it off your 3/4 and the other SD box out from your SW44 so all of your possible outputs are in use.
