My puppy will not go outside no matter what I do.
What are people's thoughts on wearing snow pants on the bus? Am I too old?
The good news is it will be 28 degC on Friday.........
when I fly to Fort Lauderdale

There are a couple of simple tricks to helping your car start after not plugging it in... Most importantly, when cranking the engine, make sure there are no other systems or or anything electrical running (or attempting to). Make sure these things are all off and only turn them on after the engine is running... Fan, stereo, interior lights... Anything that draws power. That simple trick (trick is the wrong word, it is more like logic) has saved me numerous times.
Another one that has helped me a few times is the amount of cranking. You get out there and try to start your ride and it just goes rrRRrrRRrrrrrrrrRRrrrr...
I will always kill the first attempt very shortly, and make double sure that all extraneous systems are off. Doors are closed (lights), stereo is off, everything is off... Then try cranking and let 'er crank for a good 10-15 seconds, a little bit of gas may help, but don't go stomping the pedal. This should get it going. If after 15-20 seconds it hasn't started, you're pretty much screwed. Get out the charger/plug it in/call a tow truck... Plugging it in at this point will probably work if you wait an hour. If it was already plugged in, you need a boost.

it's times like this where i'm so glad i have underground parking. it's pretty amazing how mild Calgary winters have gotten though to where anything under -20 is big news. when i first moved to this city a couple weeks of straight -35 was the norm in January

About 3 years ago I had an old 1979 Dodge pickup to drive around in the winter. Anyways on a Sunday Night we have this -40 night. But the old Dodge unplugged faithfully starts on Monday morning. I let it run for a few minutes and all looks good so I give the wife the thumbs up to drive off. Well problem was if I closed the door the lock would automatically drop and lock me out (something that conveniently started that day) and I ended up locked out of the truck. Locked out of my house, not knowing what to do I go in my back yard grab a shovel, smash out the back window and use the shovel to unlock the door.
Moral of the story...make sure to take either two sets of house keys or two vehichle keys outside with you in the winter!

Whatever. I helped a buddy bring 80 sheets of drywall into his basement tonight. I took a leak on the side of his house and my exposed skin was frozen within 20 seconds..!!

Just finished a game out in Okotoks and drove back to the NW. There is some build up of snow near bridges, but other than that, the roads are clear. Well, I should say that there is no snow on them. Blowing snow, however, is a completely different story. You can't see the road is some places. I think the wind is the biggest concern. The commute in shouldn't be too bad, just a cold one.

When did you think that running around town wearing a balaclava would be a great idea? Have fun explaining that one to the police.

I hate to endanger your friendship like this... but if you buy drywall from the big drywall company in town, as an add-on to their delivery service they will unload the drywall directly into your basement.
Forecast for Monday overnight: -38!

Coming to work this morning seemed like the dumbest idea ever. Now, the heat has decided that it's absolute zero outside so it will probably be so hot people will be passing out at their desks.

Very "breath taking" opening and closing my gate for my vehicle this morning on the side of my hill out on the bald butt prairie!!!
Seriously . . . hard to breathe in that wind.
Way back when, up north during my misspent youth, I remember one January which had three straight weeks where the morning commute was never above minus 40.
So this is nothing!!!
I'm suddenly looking forward to that Florida trip next month.
