Default Green Party May:

Is Elizabeth May someone that we want shaping any kind of public policy? Not only is her Green Party growing, but she's an ally of Stephan Dion.

Quote:
Green Party Leader and Stéphane Dion ally Elizabeth May criticized the presence of Canadian and other ISAF forces in Afghanistan as representing a “Christian/Crusader heritage,” that would actually “fuel” the “jihad.”

Elizabeth May’s comparison of the Afghan protection and reconstruction effort as a Christian Crusade is evidence of her shocking ignorance of foreign policy, Afghanistan and the current mission.
This quote is from the first link I came across, and I've never heard of the website before:
http://www.nowpublic.com/politics/gr...ion-criticized

That said, those words come directly from an actual Green Party press release:

http://www.greenparty.ca/en/releases/22.01.2008

In order to grow her party, shouldn't she be watching her words a lot more?

I'm interested in the Green Party, but don't care for the leader.

This is not the first time she has made bizarre statements.

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/po...91bd15&k=44493

May is standing by her weekend statements which condemned the Conservatives stance on climate change, comparing it to "a grievance worse than Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of the Nazis."

We are also concerned by Miss May's reported remarks which suggest that fundamentalists of the evangelical Christians are somehow awaiting the destruction of the environment and the world from greed.

This woman does nothing to command respect from me, especially as a national leader.

The green party will never be a legit party in Alberta or Canadian national elections in my lifetime so what she says doesnt make me pause or wonder one bit.

If the GP gets traction in BC, Ontario, QC, Manitoba etc - let them deal with it.

Here's an Ottawa Citizen report of the same "Christian Crusader" story:

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/...7-f73c4ca91e68

Quote:
She also blamed the fallout on what she described as the "Harper spin doctors" because of a scathing statement released by the Conservative party.

"In preparing the news release, especially when one realizes everything we say is going to come under (Prime Minister Stephen) Harper attempts at misinterpretation, in hindsight I would have reworded it to make it clearer," Ms. May said.

She also said that she read the statement "only very briefly" before it was released and added that Eric Walton, the party's foreign affairs critic, was chiefly responsible for drafting it.
It's not my fault. It was someone else who wrote it. It's all Harper's fault.. waa waa waa

C'mon. As a leader you have to take responsibility for what you say, not "I was taken out of context".

Any kind of leaning I was having towards the Green party is quickly evaporating

Actually, the greens are getting a lot of the protest votes in Alberta. ex. my riding, where people can't stand to vote for Rob Anders.

I voted and volunteered for the Greens during the last election but I have been less than impressed with Elizabeth May and have been staying clear of the Greens since she was made the leader.

I'm in the same boat. I've voted Green the last couple elections to help them get enough of the popular vote to get funding, but with May as leader I doubt I'll continue supporting them.

I have my own Rob Anders is a ###### story, and I could understand how the green party gets a good amount of protest votes (I'm conservative and I hate the guy).

I think maybe we all should start a 'None of the Above party' and simply campaign on the basis of getting protest votes. That way it'll be clear who seriously wants to throw their vote away in protest as opposed to donating $1.50 in federal funding to the green party.

Yep, I've voted Green in the last 2 Federal elections. Mostly as a protest vote, but also because I fashion myself as a quasi-serious environmentalist.
Harris was an idiot, but at least he didn't say such ridiculous things. May has moved my vote right over to the Cons.

That was my idea. Legally change my name to "None of the above" and run in an election. Wonder how well that would go over...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like Elizabeth May. I've voted Green in the past as well, but from what I've seen of her, I don't like.

I voted Green last election as well - I was kind of hoping they'd take off and put an end to the embarrassment that is the NDP, but no such luck as yet. Probably won't with this loony-tune in charge, either. I guess I'll go back to the "a pox on all their houses" vote, although Harper is the best leader of a bad bunch, and the Conservatives at least stand for something, albeit the wrong thing.

Too bad, a strong Green party would have a profound effect on the gov't, which would co-opt their least crazy ideas if they were shown to have broad support.

Elizabeth May should not be the face of the green party. I want someone who looks fit and healthy. Someone who rides mountain bikes and climbs mountains on the weekend. Public image Green Party, rule number 1. I do vote for the green party though on the hope that we can eliminate the NDP from existence. Every country needs a party that "tsk tsk's" our selfish behavior. Keep me in line Green Party.
