Just watched a trailer I haven't seen yet for Dark Knight. It looks like Ledger will deliver to fans a terrifying and fascinating Joker, a role that many thought should never be attempted after Jack's performance.
In case I'm not the last person on the planet to see it...

It says in the description that it's an autographed preprint. Would that be the same as a reprint?

There are many people out there who have od'd on medication and been out of it the entire time, not knowing what they were doing. For this reason I have a hard time just labeling somebody as selfish when the actual circumstance could be far more complicated.
Of course we don't know the details of how it occurred. Perhaps he planned it all out or perhaps he was inebriated to the point where didn't realize the harm he was doing to himself. Either way, a great tragedy in my eyes.

I don't think the people who commit this act are in any condition to really know what they are doing. I find it funny when people call them selfish or idiotic..depression is a brain disease. Obviously no one in their right mind would do something like that. I think its very difficult for a healthy person to really understand what someone who commits suicide goes through.

RIP.
As for others (I'm sure you know who you are) on this board absolutly discusting.

I wonder how much of the film is done? it just started production in december in London and was to finish in Vancouver. i'm thinking they'll start over the parts with Ledger in it.

No note was found, and with that story above about him having Pnemonia lead me to believe further that it wasn't suicide. There were over the counter sleeping pills found near him but maybe in his sleep the combonation of perscription meds, plus sleeping pills is what led to cardiac arrest.
But anyway, the entire suicide debate should be put aside... that can make a thread go into the double digets in itself.

Edit - Save it for another thread.
I am hoping by the time this movie comes out it will be easier to swallow. I would have a hard time watching this movie, that I've anticipated, if it came out now

To me i'd agree if it were a suicide.. if it was an accidental death that'd be something else to me. In fact i'd probably appreciate the performance more.

The Joker's character is based on his first two appearances in the comic books, as well as his portrayal in the graphic novel "The Killing Joke." To prepare for the role, Heath Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month researching the character and developing his performance, which he claims is based upon Sid Vicious and the character of Alex in A Clockwork Orange (1971). Ledger found the role extremely difficult, and suffered insomnia as a result.

Yeah, I read that on Wikipedia and started to wonder if getting in character for the Joker played a role.

The lack of a note doesn't mean that there wasn't a suicide plan, actually if memory serves me correct the vast majority of people who attempt to commit suicide don't leave a note. The suicide debate is completely acceptable in this thread though, I mean the guy was found next to a bottle of sleeping pills, it could have been cardiac arrest due to natural factors or something of that equivilant - but from what I have read it appears to be much more likely that he was a troubled person, which was accentuated by the fact that his wife had left him a short time prior.
I guess fame, money and everything that goes along with it really can't help someone get piece of mind.

From that article if true, he was in a sense slowly but surely killing himself. But my initial impression yesterday was that he just one off'd himself overnight.. I'm not sure that was the case. I think that everything just caught up to him.
Look at Jimi Hendrix, he died due to an OD on sleeping pills but I don't think he committed suicide. Suicide is a desperate attempt to end your sufferings and your life.. I don't think Heath Ledger had that in mind at all. He was playing with fire and got burned.

Fred Phelps and his inbred family 'church' announced today that they plan to protest at Ledger's funeral. Can't quote verbatim but Phelps said something like "He used his talent to glamorize adultery and sodomy".
Hopefully the family is able to keep things private so these clowns can't find a platform to spew their hate.

In a thread full of ridiculous hopes and wishes for other people to die, I am biting my tongue hard to not wish death on the Phelps family. They are some of the most despicable people who currently roam this world.
