I just told you I don't wish death on anyone. It was a joke. Just for that I now wish colon cancer on Dave Grohl.

Pretty disgusting how some of you look at somebody's death as an opportunity to make a joke.
Bravo.

I feel that it is more selfish for those family and friends to consider or feel their pain to be more important than the one who commited suicide due to their indescribable inner suffering that they may or may not have seen.

I completely agree. (What happened to Q F T?) Based on multiple close and personal experiences with the subject.
My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

I hope that it turns out this was some accident, and that he did not intend to take his own life. I have trouble understanding suicide.
I always liked the guy's movies, and I never heard anything bad, so I hope his memory is held fondly.

I am betting that his role as The Joker will be his best yet in any movie, fitting for his last performance.
I have always been a huge Heath Ledger fan, with a lot of respect for some of the not so conventional roles that he has taken on in the past. He wasn't afraid to play any role that came his way, and he showed that obviously through out his short career.
Can't wait to see him in TDK, and I hope that if the Joker does survive that movie, they don't ever re cast him again in the series out of respect for Heath. I have no idea how the movie ends, but I imagine if it has an open ending they will be re editing that now.

I had the pleasure of meeting him, albeit briefly, when he was here filming Brokeback Mountain back in '04. He truly was a genuinely great guy, and this is tragic news indeed. I know a few people who were still good friends with him, too.
The world lost not only a great actor, but a great person today.

And enjoying his success. If only Kurt could have done that.

He deserved the Oscar for Brokeback. Incredible performance.
Sad, sad day for film fans. One of the best young actors period.
RIP

I'm guessing that "The Dark Knight" won't be the last of Heath's films to hit the big screen. "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" due out in 2009 should be his last. Another weird role for him as well.
RIP.
As for others (I'm sure you know who you are) on this board absolutly discusting.

It's actually Bill Hicks. Leary stole it. But forget about that for this is an asinine topic on a tragic day. A true man of the arts Heath Ledger was. RIP.

My thoughts exactly. The ironing would be delicious if it weren't so sad.

The suicide debate seems to be somewhat polarizing. Personally, I feel awful for the families and friends involved. I don't feel the animosity or disappointment that many usually direct towards the deceased in these situations. I feel terrible for them, as mental illness just isn't something that can be understood until you've worn the shoes.
There are many people out there who have od'd on medication and been out of it the entire time, not knowing what they were doing. For this reason I have a hard time just labeling somebody as selfish when the actual circumstance could be far more complicated.
Of course we don't know the details of how it occurred. Perhaps he planned it all out or perhaps he was inebriated to the point where didn't realize the harm he was doing to himself. Either way, a great tragedy in my eyes.

I agree. I don't feel suicides are things you blame people for. Just tragic in general.
Sometimes the pain is just too much. My ex-girlfriend knew a kid that was sexually assaulted by every "parent" he ever had. First his real parents, then every foster parent he had. The kid finally killed himself at age 15. Just too much pain to handle.
