Another Telus Rant
So I was in the Telus store with my wife on the weekend looking at the Palm Treo755. On a 3 year contract they had it on for around $235. I thought this was a little excesive so I questioned the guy about it and he said that it was already on sale and that is as low as it goes.
Before purchasing I decided to call Telus directly from my phone to see if they would give me a credit on the purchase of the actual phone. After about 15 minutes on the phone discussing with 3 different people I was told that on that phone that was already the sale price and they could not discount it any further. I have been a client with Telus mobility for over 10 years, never paid a bill late and never question anything so the fact that they wouldn't even offer me something to retain my business and for the loyalty I've shown them really irked me.
Today I happened to be searching on the Telus website and what do I see, the exact phone that I was told could not be discounted anymore on sale for $100 less then if I would have bought it on Saturday!
Should I call Telus and go off or should I just cancel my service? Are the other providers any better or worse?

Call them and tell them you hope Verizon comes up to Canada and bankrupts them.

Imo all cellphone companies are crooked. I remember when Rogers billed me after my contract expired because I didn't call them to "confirm" I didn't want to renew it, so they automatically went and renewed it. No notice no nothing. No mention of it during the contract, it was probably in small print somewhere in the back.

So, after all of that, do you really want another long term contract?
My last contract with Telus ended about 5 years ago. I find that when I'm not on a contract, suddenly I get good service from them.

Telus sucks. We just moved into a new house. Shaw gave us a $1,300 dollar credit and 2 free DTV terminals for moving.
Telus charged us $60, showed up 3 hours late and didn't connect any of the lines in the basement. Plus they upped our package to one we don't even need. One more month until Shaw Phone.

Why is it that you have to work so hard to get anything from a provider? If you're a current customer and want to upgrade they screw you over. Get a new phone and sign up and you can get the latest and greatest for like $50 or something, but if you are an existing customer you have to buy an upgrade which is always a crappier phone.
I stopped buying phones from Rogers and now buy unlocked phones.

Telus has gotten better to work with existing clients, but it's with the new sign ups that they make a good chunk of money.
Really, no matter where you go, you're going to hear stories like this. The thing to remember too is that if you go to a Telus store, they are retail, and retail sucks right now for customer service. I have found it absolutely frustrating to try and get any kind of service from call in centres. Really, you're out of luck.
If you want the phone at the lower price and for 3 years, what's complaining about the past going to do for you. You may have a case if you got some other phone, and it's only been a day or so since. But if they weren't willing to budge before, I doubt they'd be willing to move on anything now that the price is lower.
Then again, I've heard of people who have called in and worked magic with people on the call centre, and gotten more than they asked for. All I can say is good luck.

I've dealt with Eastlink, Rogers, Shaw and Telus for internet over the last six years. Most were fine or ok, but Telus was a complete nightmare. I will do my best to never touch a Telus product again.
But when you look at it, I'm sure there's been plenty of problems with these other companies for other people.

It''s not a matter of trying to get any additional money off now. I am just baffled that they make it sound as if they have absolutely no room to move for a long-time loyal customer but then 2 days later the exact same product is $100 cheaper.

The frontline employees from the cell providers get such a bad rap.
1) They only get paid enough to almost afford rent.
2) They only eat if they sell you the longest contract possible, on the worst possible long term deal.
3)They have to sell you these brutal contracts which by the end of the first year you know you're screwed.
4) They have to deal with people who could hardly program a vcr, yet think they're phone experts.
5) Every day the employees have to tell people who come in looking for a "replacement" phone for the one they dropped or doesn't work anymore, the replacement for thier 50.00 plan phone is a crappy phone for 200.00 or a similar new one for 600.00..
That being said, some of them are real meatballs but nice or not I don't envy their position haveing to deal with such a huge range of the public , who've ALL been screwed by a terrible industry... They are like the personal assistant of a used car salesman...

Depends on the customer... People who only spend $20/month will not get the same service as those who spend $100 or more. The "New Activation Credit" is based on new customers being mid-range and spending on average, $60/month with us. If you don't do that, it's harder to get anything good the second time. I've talked to people who have been with us for $10 years with the same $20 bill and they don't get anything either... but the guy who's only been with us 2 and spends $200/month will.
In addition, hardware discounts are not up to us and WE don't have room to move. Telus does and Telus can, but they don't tell us that. For the dealer it directly impacts his commission so why would he move?

I try to. Sometimes I can help, sometimes I can't, but I sure can try.
We do have a price match guarantee though, so you'll be able to get your $100 back.

Two years left on my Telus contract, I'm counting down the days. I've had nothing but problems since switching to them. I dont know if its just the area I live in but the reception is God awful, I can't even use my cell in my house, especially my room downstairs. Yet with Bell I was able to chat comfortably anywhere in the house. The worst part is, the only reason I switched to Telus was because Bell didnt offer the LG Chocolate, and Telus did. Yet after four months, I finally got fed up with the P.O.S. Chocolate and replaced it with a KRZR; a phone I couldve gotten through Bell. Oh irony, you've gone and done it again...

Never been with Telus, but I was with Rogers once, 5 or 6 years ago. Got a 2-year contract, which by the end I was looking to get more for my consumer buck, only to find out that Rogers had "discontinued" two-year contracts and had automatically added a third year to mine.
Needless to say they didn't get one extra red cent out of me, and I've been thoroughly satisfied with Bell ever since. No dropped calls, no spam texts, and when my dog ate my old phone I managed to wrangle a deal on a new Samsung out of them no problem.

That part baffled me a bit. I had a problem with a Rogers phone a while back. Being the genius I am, I thought I would go back to the store I bought it from and see if they can address my problems. Turns out, I didn't really buy the phone from Rogers. It was actually just some retailer that had Rogers name all over the store's signage, on the till, on the salespersons' name tags, on the bill of sale and on the business cards. But it wasn't Rogers so they weren't able to help me out. Silly me.

I had the same reception problems with you. I talked to probably about 10 reps and some told me that bell and telus share the same towers. So then I ask them why the heck does my sisters phone (bell) have full reception while my phone (telus) has 0-1 bars at any given time, and I get dropped calls very frequently, even talking to you guys!
My response from them? Your phone sucks. Great... I buy a new phone, and I still get the crappy 0-1 bars. Make sense? Not to me!
So my cousin that is moving to BC for school offers me his phone plan but he's with rogers so I'd have to pay the cancellation fee. So i'm more than happy to cancel and pay the 100+ dollars it is to leave since the only connection to the outside world is with my cell phone. I call them to cancel, talk to those retention folks and they offer me a sweet phone deal and within the week I find a telus van parked outside my place for a few days and my bars go up to about 1-3 and I rarely get dropped calls.
Not sure if it is coincidence or not about the telus van, but it made me a happy customer.
I then proceeded to tell my friends to 'cancel' and then get better plans and they all did. The people with power are retentions and they have special plans that no one else has. So I suggest you all give it a shot!

They all suck to some degree, but in my experience Telus sucks with industrial strength power. So ya, go ahead and switch. You still won't be happy, but you'll at least be less annoyed.
