My friend lives in Europe and works for the company that does the software and wap sites for a lot of the providers over there, and she usually has about 8 phones at a time for testing and agrees that Motorolas are crap. She swears by Sony Erickson.
If she swears by Sony Erickson and lives in Europe it is likely she only tests GSM (the kind used by Rogers/Fido) phones. Yes motorola GSMs are crap.

Motorola CDMAs (the kind that Bell and Telus use) are the saffest bet of all the brands. Samsung is also pretty good, but, in general, less durable than the Motorolas.

The best phones Telus has ever produced are probably the V60 and the Star Tech. Both motorolas.

Honorable mention goes to Nokia. The only problem being their Telus phones have all been pretty damn ugly.

Interesting since working there I can tell you that the worst phone I've ever dealt with has been the Razr. And it's not even close. After that would probably be the V710, also, another motorola. Sure, the Chocolate was crap, but as far as I can recall, Motorolas have given us the most headaches. More than the fact that they're crap to begin with is the fact that their service sucks too. At least with a Samsung if it breaks, they'll fix it.

Anyone have a hook-up for a LG8100 battery ???
This phone takes the same battery as the LG 8100- can be confirmed on the telusmobility wibsite. The phone is $39.99 and you will have a backup phone incase the battery doesn't fix te LG 8100. The battery included is brand new and OEM.

Really the Razr? I found that to be by far the best. Maybe so many people had issues w/ it just because of volume. It probably accounted for half our sales.

Yeah the V710 had a lot of software issues, that is jsut because it was ahead of its time (well for Canada anyways). They just tried to cram to many high end features into that phone before the technology and software was really there.

I thought the Samsungs were good, just a lot more fragile. We always had problems w/ the hinges snapping or external screens breaking. They seemed to solve some of thsoe w/ later models, but it seemed like the later models had more software issues. Also, the reception on Samsung just did not compare to Motorola.

The only phones I've ever owned have been motorolas. Never had a problem w/ any of them, and I always get reception in areas noone else does.

I do agree w/ you on the chocolates though. Or LGs in general. They always look great coming off the line, but just do not last.

Interesting.

I'm pretty sure its the battery as I tried a co-workers (who has the same phone) battery and it fired right up.

My wife has the same phone as well. I'll definitely check her battery as well and will probably get the F-Shop phone. Cheaper that Battery world and less scary than e-bay.

Kind of OT but Telus related. I got a call from Telus saying I was chosen to receive a new phone for free (they made it sound like I won a prize) but then the guy was saying something about how the phone would have a 3 year contract or something (it was hard to understand him). The thing is I already have a phone and contract with Telus and I'm only in the first year of my 3 year contract. Is it normal for Telus to just randomly dial up customers and ask if they want another phone and contract??

The normally only do this for two reasons:
1) there are 6 months or less on your current contract
2) They do it to upgrade people to data devices

Any other reason is definitely unusual.

Thanks for the awesome tip.

Picked up a P&T phone today at FS as you suggested.

Same battery and saved a bundle.
