Default Moving to Victoria, Locals Need Advice

Okay, so I'm moving to Victoria in a couple months and want to figure out some stuff.
The most important thing is, where should I be looking to find a new band?
Other then that,
What is a decent one bedroom apartment gonna cost me? And what would be a good job to have until school in the fall? (I want money if that helps) I was thinking of something like a SHAW call centre thing. A buddy out there told me that would be about $16 an hour or so.

I'm seeing them in Vancouver on the 30th. Originally I thought the Flames played the next night, but they play the same night

Then that sounds like a good reason to find a band. I'm unclear on the "why" part.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "why" in the 1st question. Although I'm sure you can find like-minded people at gigs here as well as through Monday magazine or even Craigslist...

As far as apartments go I'm not sure what "reasonable" means. It all depends on where you want to live as well as whether basement suites, actual apartments, etc. I just moved here on a semi-temporary basis (and plan on making it FT soon) in November and I'd hazard a guess that you'd at least be looking at $500-$600 on rent and that could be in the low ballpark.

Monday Magazine is called: Monday (even though it's published on Thursdays)
http://www.mondaymag.com/

The best websites for places to live/apply for jobs in Victoria:
craigslist.com
http://classifieds.canada.com/victoria/index.aspx (classified for the Times Colonist, the local rag)
http://housing.uvic.ca/ads/index.php? (Uvic Off-campus housing website)

500-600/month will get you a crappy bachelor suite in a decent part of town and a decent one-bedroom in a crappy part of town. Though, it's hard to live more than 15 minutes from anything in this city.
If you want a decent one-bedroom in a decent part of town expect to pay at least 700/mo.

For example, the last one bedroom I lived in was amazing - 700 square feet, 14+ foot celings, 2 patios, mirrored windows looking out on the street, however it was also the first alcove up from the needle exchange and I had to, on a number of occasions, actually wait for a junkie to finish shooting up so I could get through the gate to my front door. 795/mo + utils.

As for jobs the big "call centre" job is a company called West corp.
http://www.west.com/
They are the contractor for AT&T - Cingular wireless's service centre so you deal with PO'ed Americans cell-phone issues. They are always hiring, but their location is well outside of town - however, they are such a large employer that BC transit actually created a bus-route that services them.

Unemployment is very low in this town right now though and jobs are not hard to come by. Don't expect Calgary wages, but pay is good and skilled people can pretty much get any job they want.

I can't help you with the band thing, but there are tons of local bands. Good bars you'll want to hit are Logan's, Lucky, and Steamer's (though I think I heard that Steamer's in closing)

Also you will want to visit this website to familiarize yourself with our local, dominant, hockey team: http://www.salmonkings.com/
And just so you know, anyone who's cool calls 'em the 'Skings'.
