Default Any alternative to Paypal out there?

Got a guy with a good price on a laptop, but doesn't want to take paypal (first sign of a scam).

Are there any other ways to send cash that I can fund with a credit card to protect myself?

I'm also suggesting a COD, he says he works for Air Canada Cargo and wants to ship it that way as it's cheaper.

Doesn't want to take PayPal? Hmmnnn, sounds fishy indeed.

e-mail money transfer through your bank. I don't know if you can use your credit card, though, it depends on the bank, I'm sure.

Who wouldn't want to take Paypal? Seriously. I am not sure i'd deal with him. Their dispute resolution is the best.

If he insists on not using paypal, you should be alright as long as you find a way to pay with your Credit card. Their dispute resolution is way better then paypals anyways

Credit Cards will give you back your money easier than PayPal if something goes wrong.

But not use PayPal? That does sound fishy.

There are companies like Creative Labs who don't use PayPal, because they don't want to pay them for every transfer.

EMT through the bank is just cash isn't it? I don't think I can fund an EMT from a CC.

Yeah, trying to find a different way to send him the money and funding it from a CC. Bidpay doesn't fund with CC's, and Western Union has warnings not to use it to pay for online auctions (plus they're expensive).

escrow.com

bizpay.com - I think it used to be affiliated with a parcel service, can't remember which.

I don't have Visa at all.

Found these guys: http://www.alertpay.com/

He says Paypal screwed him out of $1500 a few years ago, so he doesn't use paypal. I really want the laptop, but I've given him a bunch of options that I'd accept, if he doesn't want to do it he must be scamming. I'll stalk him around craigslist and warn people to not buy from him

I don't see what's wrong with Fedex COD.

I guess.. but that also suggest a scam right there. Take the money and run.

Escrow.com was the name I was thinking of as an alternative but it's not exactly instant either.

I don't think that offers the same level of protection. IIRC a Visa Cheque counts as a cash advance, and is no more secure than a regular cheque.

One of the reasons Visa et al offer extra protection is their merchants are bound by certain rules.

I have to agree- no Paypal on a large amount sounds fishy. And most of the "ripped off by Paypal" stories I've heard are more accurately "I didn't understand how Paypal worked, and took financial advice from a stranger who wanted me to send him money."

Or the "I sold a laptop to a Nigerian and the payment was reversed on me"
