He does hit left handed pitching really well and can probably DH on occasion should Thomas get injured. He's never been a great On base guy, but he usually has a pretty good average and used to have good slugging numbers for a catcher. I guess he can be the Benji Molina for this year.

That's true, his arm is still a lot better. I'd say their defence is relatively similar at this point (not very good) but it would be nice to have a catcher that can throw out a few more runners.

Their Arms/Defense are completely moot. Anyone who thinks that bringing in Lo Duca would somehow make the jays better defensively or at stopping baserunners is kidding themselves.
The problem was that last year our starters simply cannot pitch out of the stretch, and were told by Arnsberg, not to worry about baserunners. Almost every bag was stolen exclusively off the pitcher. Even Pudge in his prime would have a low throw %.

Well that doesn't seem like a terrible price for Eckstein. Wasn't he rumored to be getting a fair bit more than that? He is a pretty tenacious hitter who doesn't strike out often, and doesn't hit into double plays. Prior to last year he'd been a pretty dependable defender. Career on base of .356 is decent for a short stop and he is a guy who hits at the top of the order. So although he's a right handed hitter, he does add something to the lineup.
Although now with Scutaro, and McDonald it does seem that the Jays have a redundant extra infielder. Than again depending on Glaus' health Scutaro could see a bit of game action at third base.

Is a big upgrage average wise and obp wise to the jays infield. Lets hope he has a solid year and can maintain his averages. Him and johnny mac will be a great duo.

I really like the Eckstein signing for the Jays. While he's not a fantastic defensive shortstop (I'd say he's probably league average), his career average OPS is over 100 points higher than McDonald's (which translates to a lot of runs). What I really like about this is that it leaves the Jays with 9 players who can at least be counted on to be decent offensively. There are no longer any black holes in the offensive lineup and I'm actually pretty optimistic about this season if Wells can bounce back!

Hopefully, due to pure shame and disgrace Greg "juicy juicerson" Zaun will retire from the game and not force the Jays to make the call on what to do with his steriod abusing arse. I would rather have Rowan Atkinson catching games then seeing some guy who we now all know is(or at the very least, was) a dirty cheat. I dont want a cheat on the team I cheer for , dont know about you guys.

Meh. If Zaun needed steroids to become a below average #1 catcher, maybe he should have picked a different profession.
That said, I've always liked the guy and I'll kinda miss him a bit.

Zaun use to battle a lot of demons in his life, steroid use really wouldn't have suprised me earlier in his life. I don't mind him as a catcher or as a team leader, he just simply can't be used as an everday catcher

Sorry about that. Not sure what I was thinking.
And I've also changed my mind. I wouldn't miss him too much IF he were to leave.
Good signing. I'm a huge Reed fan. Wish it was a multiyear.

Any news about the Rios deal to SF? It really dropped out of nowhere and died fast. Is it still on the table or has it been rejected?
