America needs Obama?
this is an article from the globe and mail
Quote:
He's been outpolling Hillary Clinton in Iowa. And he polls better than any other Democrat against all the Republican candidates. Four years ago, hardly anyone had heard of his name, let alone tried to pronounce it. But, today, people across the political spectrum hope he might become a redemptive figure in U.S. political life.
America needs Barack Obama, maybe even more than he needs to be president.
|
This race is getting interesting, I truly believe the Democrats will take this election as the trust in the Republican is waning ( mostly due to the current administration). Does Obama stand as the political frontrunner for the 2008 election?

Well the Democrats will win if Obama is the front runner. I think we will be in for another closely contested election if Clinton is the front runner. The only way the Republicans would stand another chance in hell at gaining the White House at this point is if Ron Paul was the front runner. Which will never happen because he is not Republican enough to when the primaries. Doesn't matter as I will still vote Libertarian in '08.

I'd really like to see Obama win over Clinton. It would also be nice to finally see the first black president. Having said that.... they'll say anything to get elected. I watched some thing on Huckabee the other night, he'd probably get my vote for the primary.

Having another American president who makes his policies based on advice he gets from what he thinks is god, scares the crap out of me.

Huckabee does not convey himself as being confident, It comes across in the way he speaks- if he doesn't at least depict himself as a strong leader- how can he be one?

He is or at least he gives it a lot of lip service and it sure helped him get elected. I think it came from his saving from cocaine addiction. I couldn't find an exact link for 'Spontaneous prayer circles?' but i'm sure it's part of his life.

Anyways Huckabee has won the Iowa Republican race and Obama has won the Democrat race with 35% right now. Edwards and Clinton have 31% each.

Huckabee will fade away ala Howard Dean. He is bringing his evangelical past and beliefs to the forefront of his campaign and contrary to what some here think that will hurt him badly.
Romney will win the nomination.

Well being in College I would say the majority of the people I run into are undecided, but it doesn't really matter as the majority won't vote.

He would make references to God speaking to him and telling him what to do. He was one of those born again types.

Hillary winning the nomination would be the best scenario for the Republican party.

When I was living in Chicago Obama came by my school and talked to the Seniors before his election. Very well spoken and IMO would be a great president.
Of course some of us asked him the standard questions and then some people asked real big tough questions on touchy topics, and he didn't do very much question dodging and actually answered most of them

Started reading a few of Obamas books he had published a few years ago and have followed him ever since. It's been great to see his rise in the last 6 months.

I think Edwards is a safer bet to beat any of the Republicans. Let's face it, Obama still has to jump the hurdle of being a non-white and non-Anglo candidate. It's a pretty big deal (and it would be in Canada too, unless they are French).
It's not that long ago that if you asked someone who Obama was, they would have thought he was a terrorist. And I bet many still think he is a Muslim too. I hope he proves me wrong though...
