Default Alberta Boot Camp

www.albertabootcamp.com

I found this while searching up personal trainers on teh interwebs. I'm seriously considering doing this either starting next week or next month (depending on my work schedule).

It goes for one month from Monday to Friday starting at 5:30 AM for one hour (eg. INSANELY early). Looks to me like Biggest Loser, only you don't have be overweight to participate.

I'm not overweight in the least bit. I'm actually in decent shape, but I would like to increase my fitness level, and this appears way cheaper than sessions with a personal trainer.

Has anybody ever done this?

I saw a story on Global news about it last year.

I heard bootcamps are hard, and that there aren't actually any boots there.

My friend did it and finished it, I think he loved it, but said the hardest thing was getting up that early.

A buddy of mine had good things to say about these people: http://www.survivorbootcamp.com

I've been looking at going to them this year. They seem to be better priced, and they also offer evening classes so you aren't dead and then trying to head into work.

My wife and sister in law did the survivor bootcamp that ken0042 mentioned. They really liked it. Just be aware that it serves a purpose (fast weight loss and toning). Bootcamps are indeed effective but to maintain that level of activity once you're done is quite a challenge. If you don't maintain the activity level, you could fall back to square one.

It is indeed cheaper than a trainer, but if I was looking for long term results I'd probably pay the extra $$ or do multiple months of bootcamp.

I'm up at 4:30 am to be at work for 6 am. I could do it, but it sounds like work

From Alberta Boot Camp's Website:

Why do we charge what we charge?

Life coaching, of all the Adventure Boot Camps out there we are the only ones who include lifecoaching in our program. You will succeed with Calgary's ONLY CERTIFIED Fitness Lifestyle Coach Allan Fine

I'm not sure about this whole life-coaching jazz, but from their description of life-coaching, they focus a lot on how to continue staying motivated after the program. Not to say Survivor Boot Camp doesn't. I actually have no idea. Survivor seems to be cheaper though. Either way as much as I'd like to do evenings, evenings are much too busy for me. Looks like I have a choice now at least!

On a similar note, anybody here have a personal trainer? I looked around a bit and it seems like there's tons of options out there. How do you choose a good fit for yourself? And what's a fair price? It was looking like $60-$80/solo session. Is that a reasonable cost?

The thing with bootcamp is that it really isn't that expensive. Why not just give it a shot? Worst case scenario is you're out a little bit of money and you got some intense physical exercise for a whole month.

I'm in no way trying to knock bootcamps. Anything that gets people out and active is a huge plus. There were many people in my wifes class that signed up for multiple months.

Personal training is shockingly expensive. They do offer a lot and from what I've seen the results can be staggering. I'd love to have one but personally I don't have the budget for it. I've only seen prices from world health club so I'm not really well educated in the field of standard pricing.

They give you the option of the afternoon too. Its hard as hell though but very worth it. I had a blast.

I broke my ankle two days after I finished and am back to where I started...

My girlfriends sister and her boyfriend own and opperate a bootcamp here in Van. Bootcamps are huge here and they were one of the first to start doing it.
Their clients love it. It can be a little costly, but it's fun and the results are great. Even a lot of already fit people join their bootcamps and get a lot out of them.
I highly recommend them

My girlfriend does that up here in St. Albert, through Club Fit. Its an early morning for her(starts at 5:30am every Mon/Wed/Fri) for a month. But she loves it, January will be her third straight month doing it. As long as you can get up that early consistantly you should enjoy yourself by the sounds of it.

Yeah I'm in decent shape. So for me it's more about figuring out how much of my workout is restricted by mental blocks vs. actual physical limits. I didn't realize how many boot camps are actually available out there though. I think I'm gonna sign up for the February session of Alberta Boot Camp. I'll let you guys knows how it goes, life coaching and everything

Yeah, that was weird, I'll post the link I have, this is what I did:

http://www.soldiersoffitness.com/home.php?location_id=1

A referral gets you a discount, so if you decide to go this route get a hold of me, I dont think I get anything out of it, but what the hell.

Its a lot of fun. It is not easy!

I'm thinking of doing that February session too, I'm going to Central America for a project and want to go in top shape.

A personal trainer is a professional.

(Theres good and bad trainers and trainers with different qualifications just like many professions so Im not going to make the arguement that anyone can be a trainer.)

Is $60 to $80 per hour expensive?

I guess it depends on how you look at it.

Who else do you deal with on a regular basis and what do they charge? A mechanic? Your hair stylist? Your accountant? The person who cuts your lawn and shovels your snow?

Whats your health and fitness worth to you? Whats someones time worth who can give you expert advice on these matters?

Some people dont need the motivation of a trainer. Others feel they can get all the info they need from the internet or from friends at the gym. While others feel a trainer gives them value - hence why trainers are charging $60 to $80 or more per hour and continue to exist.

A lot of people have health/wellness accounts as part of their benefits from their employers which can cover a significant percentage of the cost of hiring a trainer.

Just wondering if anyone has done one recently or planning one for this spring/summer. I'm looking at the http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com/programs.html ones and think they'd suit me better than seeing a trainer nazi for 1 month and regaining it all back.
