the symptons are similar to an ulcer but are typically enduced by alcohol.
I had a similar experience to yours about 5 years ago and it damn near killed me.
found out my pancreas doesnt work as well as it should, therefore, I have not had an alcoholic beverage since.
the pain though is excruitiating and seems to build without letting up. I ended up being hospitalized and they almost lost me in the emergency room.
just my thoughts though.
I don't think it's that just because the pain has really started to subside and when it was bad it was very intermittent. I'd have a constant dull pain and then it would get really intense and then settle down again.

I know it may be wrong but I would recommend buying a thing of zantacs in the meantime, it is over the counter and works well. I have a buddy who stole a bag of citric acid in high school and ate the whole thing, ever since he has had heartburn, he now swears by zantac. It may help you while you wait for the appointment (but on second thought I think the breathe teste tells you not to take things like that a week prior IIRC).
What would possess a guy to eat a whole bag of citric acid? Must have been double dog dared or something.

I don't want to know what a 'breathe teste' is.

It consists of sticking a sterilized straw into a sterilized vial and breathing out for 8 seconds.
