You know his top guys are going to be playing on Saturday after watching him go play action on a 4th & 7 with 10 minutes left and up 3 touchdowns.

I really thought they would lose one, and they almost did. It's a real credit to Brady the way he was able to keep that from happening against Baltimore.
I think they'll blow everyone out in the playoffs and win another ring.

Kudos to Brady and the Pats on what looks like a 16-0 season. The only thing that stands in there way from going 19-0 are the defending superbowl champs.

The fact that these teams can make sure they can get up and win the big games after facing off against lesser opponents is a credit.

Pats beat DAL, IND on the road. Beat SD and PIT. The only teams they have not played from the top in power rankings are JAC and GB. NE had a very difficult looking schedule at the start of the season / BAL, CIN, NYJ, were all playoff teams last year / PHI CLE and BUFF are decent teams too.
In just a few hours we see if NE Can make it 16 and 0. Would that be worth a banner like a Superbowl victory?

do they have banners for the best regular season team, ala the Presidents Trophy for the NHL? if so i think they'd modify it a bit to point out the 16-0 tidbit

I think you need 19-0 for it to be something more than a footnote.

If they don't go all the way, they'll wish they never got the 16-0.

Sorry, if i missed your point.

A couple items in the wake of the Patriots perfect regular season that I think are getting vastly underplayed: New England this season was 7-0 against teams that wound up with a winning record, with six of those teams being 10-6 or better (Chargers, Colts, Cowboys, Steelers, Browns and Giants). By comparison, the 1972 Dolphins were just 2-0 against winning teams.
And the Patriots have now won an NFL record 19 regular-season games in a row, topping their own mark of 18 set in 2003-2004. That means that in the span of the past five regular seasons, New England has had two separate 18-game winning streaks. The Patriots are a combined 66-14 in those five regular seasons of 2003-2007. That's astounding.

So if you are already a dynasty what comes after that? I love watching those two guys on the NFL network...

After that it becomes an era. in 20 years people in boston will be referring to the first decade of the new millennium as the "Brady era".

Had an idea!

Hard to imagine that Brady was a 6th round draft pick, and the 3rd quarterback on a 0-8 team at one point.

i remember right after 9/11 i was stuck to the American news channels for months afterward just to keep up on what was happening. and the NBC affiliate that we got on our cable just happened to be in Boston, so i ended up watching a lot of Patriots news by happenstance. it's pretty crazy to think that people in Boston were so doom and gloom when Bledsoe was injured in 01, then this unknown backup quarterback takes his team to a Superbowl championship (in probably the best football i've ever watched in a super bowl). they've been the NFL team i cheer for the most since then so it's been quite an experience to see how far Brady has come

I seriously think the Pats will have their hands full in the playoffs. Even though they did go undefeated. They did struggle a bit in December. Nearly losing to the Eagles, Ravens, Jets (in a bad weather game, maybe not that close but still winnable for the Jets near the end of the game) and Giants. They will not be facing the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, or Buffalo Bills in the playoffs. Now that teams have proven that they are beatable. (From the Ravens no less) It will eliminate some of the doubt from the opposition.

How has any team PROVEN that they are beatable? As far as 16-0 is concerned that would prove to me that NO team has proven anything but how to lose against them.
I am not saying they are unbeatable or will walk through to 19-0 but you also have to take into account that 6 of 16 wins were against playoff teams and 8 of 16 were against .500 or better teams. So yes they got to play MIA/BUF/NYJ but they also had to prepare and beat good teams.
Its football anything can happen on any given Sunday or however that goes, so I would say that the odds are stacked against the Pats but they have proven that they can dominate teams & come from behind against good teams.
Even without winning the SB they will be the best team to ever play in a Salary Cap/RFA era, if not ever. They also had a lot harder and longer road than the Dolphins in '72.

Preach it, Reverend... I wholeheartedly concur. All the Ravens did was lose. They just helped the Pats prove that they can come back from just about anything. Oh, and they lost to Miami.

They certainly have shown that they are beatable. They needed a dumb TO call and cheap penalty to beat the mighty Ravens. Got a heck of a scare from a mediocre Eagles team with a second string QB making a horrible pass on the final drive. Needed a great 4th quarter to beat the Giants and needed a great second half and poor second half from their opponents to beat a Harrison-less Colts team.
All 16-0 does is shows that they haven't been beaten yet. It certainly doesn't show that they cannot be defeated in the future.
This Patriots team is definitely one of the best team in the league and probably one of the best ever but their chances of getting beat goes much beyond "any given Sunday." As dominant as they have been in some games there have been enough close games to indicate that they are not the all-powerful gods that some media would like you to belief they are.
I certainly wouldn't bet against them but nothing would be sweeter or more fitting than having this team lose in the play-offs and having them and their smug fans having to live with 16-1 while a deserving team like the Colts are enjoying the SB win.
