Black Snake Moan
For anyone who wants a movie recommendation for the new year, this is one straight from the Captain.
With Samuel L Jackson, Christina Ricci and Justine Timberlake.
The story focuses around a young trouble girl who's ill, drug addicted and promiscuous gets beaten up after a friend of her boyfriend attempts to rap her one night. She finds herself in the care of Samuel Jackson, a troubled god fearing blues man who chains her to his radiator and is determined to make her right.
Yes Christina Ricci spends a lot of times either naked or in panties and a next to nothing T-Shirt, but the movie itself and the acting and the story of redemption is incredible and top notch.
The sound track with a strong southern blues element is outstanding.
An amazing movie for anyone who's a fan of any of the actors (And yes, Timberlake does a great job as well)

Saw the preview for this on Movie Central the other day... Didn't want to see it before, but I think I'd record it and try and find some time for it. Interesting premise, and Sam Jackson can almost do nothing wrong.

I thought it was mediocre, but I must admit that the 2 points above enticed me to add it to my DVD collection already.

Color me shocked on this one, the woman that played the mother was Kim Richards, who was pretty famous in the 80's, then vanished from Hollywood in the early 90's.
She was my first T.V. crush when I was knee high to a grasshopper.

Really liked the directors previous film Hustle and Flow, but this one didn't hit the mark for me. Ricci was great, but Jackson's character seemed contrived as the film went on, worth a viewing though. Just discovered the Lookout, a little flick starring the guy from "Brick", Gordon Leavitt, brilliant film.

Yep, the Lookout was great if you can get past the whole suburban KC high school hockey charade...which I could. Jeff Daniels is an underrated actor I think too. Joseph Gordon-Leavitt is turning into one himself.
I really liked Black Snake Moan too. The scene in the bar when Jackson is playing is outstanding. I am admitedly a big Sam Jackson fan. Hell, I even liked parts of 'The Man' enough to watch it. One of the best quotes ever in that little 'gem', "I will cheese grate your ass through that fence" Classic.

Wow, talk about making the rounds in the 80's. She was on The Love Boat, Diff'rent Strokes, Dukes of Hazzard, CHiPs, Magnum P.I., Alice. It was quite a run.

Black Snake Moan was pretty good, I watched it last night. The music really adds to the film and the performances were great. Samuel L. has a few stellar scenes and a some lines that he delivers are just killer. All the actors did a great job.
As for his previous film, I really couldnt get into Hustle & Flow, my friends loved it, it got Oscar nods and the whole works, but man, I know pimpin' ain't easy and its hard out here for a pimp. But I just couldnt care. If its that hard then stop pimping and work on your music career? Whatever, I just thought that movie sucked. It had some great moments, but unlike Black Snake Moan, I hated the musical segments in Hustle & Flow.
I loved Gordon Leavitt in Brick, that was a phenomenal film, I liked the style, the script and the performances. I thought it was great and it really renewed my respect for that guy as an actor. I'm looking forward to catching The Lookout. I know its a different style of film, but it should be good. Plus it has hockey. Thats good right?

Let me preface this by saying I have not seen Black Snake Moan.
Not trying to start an argument here, but in my honest opinion Samuel L. Jackson is perhaps the most overrated actor of all time. It seems like every other week this guy comes out with another garbage movie. The Man, both of the XXX's, all of the new star wars movie, Coach Carter, Freedomland, Deep Blue Sea (as was already mentioned), Jackie Brown, S.W.A.T..
I still feel like he is living off of his god like performance in Pulp Fiction and people might be a bit afraid of what I think is the truth, Samuel L. Jackson is not that great of an actor.

Samuel L. Jackson is a great and versatile actor... probably one of my favorites.
With that, he seems to be in everything... and when you're in everything, it means you make an awful lot of crappy movies, as well as good ones. XXX 1 and 2, Deep Blue Sea and Farce of the Penguins come to mind as concensus garbage movies that he featured prominently in.

You obviously haven't seen Hairspray...i kid i kid. You're probably right, if people are willing to pay him tons of cash for 10 films a year you can't blame him for not walking away from the cash.

My bad... I meant Farce of the Penguins. The actual documentary was well done, and yes that was Morgan Freeman.
