I'm a big fan of certain words - mostly words that are goofy, or have some kind of interesting sound to them, so I thought I'd post a few and see if anyone has some favorites of their own that need to be savoured:
1. Chupacabra!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chupacabra
I drive my friends crazy with the random "Chupacabra!" given as answer to completely unrelated questions, like "Where do you want to go for lunch?" "Chupacabra!" (followed sometimes by a spoken "Ha ha ha!")
2. Sassafras
Say it and you'll understand - if only there was a language consisting entirely of Sassafras! No-one would understand anyone else, but you'd sound so cool speaking it!
3. Curmudgeon
Doesn't even look like English, does it? It just rules on so many levels, I don't even have space here to go on about it. Use it. Now.
4. Spank
Is there any word which is more onomatopoeic? In an alternate universe, would spank mean fork, or concrete, or mathematics? I think not! It is the perfect word to describe, well, spanking!
5. Whippoorwill
Did you know a whippoorwill is a kind of nightjar? It's like 2 cool words in one! Granted, you can't use it in casual conversation much (unlike Chupacabra!), but when you do manage to work it in, your audience will stay awake all night repeating it to themselves, entranced by the wonder that is the whippoorwill!
